Refer to the Product Manual for the drive for hardware installation instructions. 2. Click on Start / Settings / Control Panel, then double click the System icon. 3. Click on the Hardware tab, then Click on the Device Manager button. 4. In the list of devices you will see a category called "Other Devices". Expand "Other Devices", and you should see a device with the name of "Ecrix VXA-1", "Exabyte VXA-2", or "Exabyte VXA-3". 5. Double click on the tape device to open the Properties window. 6. Click the Driver tab on the Properties window and click the "Update Driver..." button. 7. If the Hardware Update Wizard prompts "Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?", select "No, not this time". Click Next. 8. Click on Start / Settings / Control Panel, then double click the System icon. 3. Click on the Hardware tab then Click on the Device Manager button. 4. REMOVING THE DRIVER FROM WindowsXP/2003 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= If you have already installed the VXA driver for WindowsXP/2003 and want to remove it from the system, use these steps: 1. Boot the machine to WindowsXP/2003 with the VXA drive attached and powered-on. 2. Click on Start / Settings / Control Panel, then double click the System icon. 3. Click on the Hardware tab then Click on the Device Manager button. 4. In the list of devices you will see a category called "Tape drives". Expand "Tape drives", and you should see a device with the name of "Ecrix VXA-1", "Exabyte VXA-2", or "Exabyte VXA-3". 5. Right click the tape device and select Uninstall. At the Confirm Device Removal dialog, click OK. 6. Right click on Start, and choose Explore. 7. In the Explorer, go to the \WINDOWS\INF directory. 8. Look for files called OEM*.INF. Open each OEM*.INF file and look for "VXA.INF" at the top of the file. When you have found an OEM*.INF file with "VXA.INF", take note of the name of the file. For example, "OEM6.INF". 9. Close the file. Delete the OEM*.INF file for VXA and delete its corresponding OEM.PNF file as well. For example, if the file called OEM6.INF is for VXA, delete both the OEM6.INF and OEM6.PNF files. 10. In Explorer, go to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
