FLASH.TXT Driver File Contents (XPS_A05.EXE)

WARNING: DO NOT INTERRUPT THE OPERATION OF THE FLASH BIOS UPGRADE PROGRAM ONCE IT STARTS. INTERRUPTING THIS PROCESS DURING OPERATION BY EITHER PRESSING THE RESET BUTTON, ACTIVATING THE POWER BUTTON, OR LOSING AC LINE VOLTAGE FROM A POWER OUTAGE MAY PERMANENTLY CORRUPT THE SYSTEM FLASH BIOS.

                       TO UPDATE THE FLASH BIOS
                       ========================

1) Create a bootable diskette.

Insert a blank diskette into drive A, type FORMAT A: /U /S, and press
    <ENTER>.

2) Copy the executable Flash BIOS Update program (for example,
XP90-A04.EXE) to the newly created diskette.

From the directory containing the file (on the hard-disk drive), type
COPY <filename> A: (for example, COPY XP90-A04.EXE A:) and press
    <ENTER>.

NOTE: STEP 3 IS REQUIRED ONLY IF YOU HAVE CHANGED THE BOOT SEQUENCE CATEGORY IN THE SYSTEM SETUP PROGRAM AFTER YOU RECEIVED YOUR SYSTEM. BOOTING FROM A DISKETTE FIRST IS THE DEFAULT FOR ALL DELL SYSTEMS.

3) Verify that the Boot Sequence category in the System Setup program is
set to "Diskette First." See your "User's Guide" for procedures on
starting the System Setup program and modifying the Boot Sequence
    category.

4) Reboot your system.

Verify that the diskette you made in steps 1 and 2 is inserted into
drive A. Then press the <CTRL><ALT><DELETE> keys simultaneously.

5) Your system then prompts you to enter the current time and date.

Enter the correct time and date. The A:> prompt appears.

6) Type the filename of the Flash BIOS Update program (for example,
XP90-A04.EXE) and press <ENTER>. Follow the instructions in the Flash
BIOS Update program. When you see the "Done!" message, remove the
    diskette from drive A.

7) Press a key to reboot the system. Your system will now restart with
the updated BIOS. The system sign-on banner displays the BIOS
revision (for example, A04). The BIOS revision is also displayed in
the System Setup program. You may access the System Setup program
using the process described in your "User's Guide."

8) If you performed step 3 above, you will need to access the System
Setup program and set the Boot Sequence category back to its original
    setting.
