Installation Instructions firmware Upgrade 

LG CRD-8240B to Version 1.19

Improper processing of this upgrade WILL damage the drive. LG is not responsible or liable for improper installation of this upgrade. If you do not feel comfortable installing this upgrade, please call our office Monday through Friday, 7am to 7pm CST, at 800-243-0000, option 2, for other options. 

This firmware upgrade IS for firmware versions below 1.19 of LG brand CD-ROM drives. The ROM version is stamped on the top of the drive below the serial number. 

This upgrade is also for USA/Canadian models only.  Firmware upgrades for other countries are available through those countries. Not all countries require firmware up grades to be done.  

For details regarding firmware for your model from another countryplease go to www.lgservice.com and send email to the appropriate country. A representative from that LG division will get in contact with you regarding your request. 

This upgrade IS NOT designed for drives manufactured for Packard Bell, HP, NEC, IBM, or any other OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) customers.  Please follow the hardware setup instructions below. 
                       
1. Have the CD-ROM drive connected to the secondary ide channel as a master drive alone. 

2. Do not touch or interfere with the drive while the FIRMWARE is upgrading. 

3. If an error occurs during the upgrade process, or the upgrade is cancelled during this process, damage to the drive can occur. This is your responsibility. LG cannot be held liable for mistakes or errors that occur during this process. 

The following table will help you determine if the drive you own is an LG Branded drive or not. If you are unsure, DO NOT DOWNLOAD AND USE the firmware upgrade.

Other combinations are possible.

LG Drives----1.00-1.39-NO letters 
OEM Drives--1.00-2.15 --Can be followed by letters

If your drive meets any of the OEM spec, it is an OEM drive and the firmware upgrade should not be used. Also, no RMA or warranty exchange is possible for these drives.  Please contact the PC Manufacturer. 

                  
Download file to a temp directory on your hard drive. Please make sure this is the only file in this directory.

Double-Click On the 8240firm.exe file to run.  Running this executable will extract these files to a directory specified by the user.

Make A bootable system diskette from control panel.

Copy the extracted files from the temporary directory to the bootable diskette.

Reboot the PC with the boot disc in the boot drive {A:}. The CD-ROM should be recognized as Drive D or as the next available drive letter.

Type XFERLG 8240-119 at the A:> prompt.

The computer will display a screen indicating the firmware process has begun.

DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE DRIVE DURING THIS PROCESS.

When the upgrade is complete, the screen will indicate FIRMWARE UPGRADE COMPLETE.

It may also indicate no firmware update complete. Test by rebooting the PC and viewing the properties of the CD-ROM in Device Manager. Verify the ROM version - it should indicate ROM version 1.19.

Reboot the PC.
