Modem Helper SG Release Notes

Version 2.13 - (Wave Device INF Verification still turned off)
Bugs Fixed
1. Fixed Issue where the TAPI call would fail if the modem was installed but not rebooted.
2. Modem Helper now closes DLG and MH when it starts to keep these applications from causing issues during testing.

Version 2.12 - (Wave Device INF Verification still turned off)
Bugs Fixed
1. Grayed out Minimize and Maximize buttons in IE window
2. Java Script error if Modem Helper path contains double bit characters.  Fixed in all languages and Operating systmes accept JP ME.

1. Added support for Aluminum, Tungston, Tin & Gold 2K and XP.
2. Removed Supplementary file searches for hsfinst.dll in 2k and XP for Zinc, Chrome, Patron, Herredura, and Moon


Version 2.11 - (Wave Device INF Verification still turned off)
Bugs Fixed
1. XP and 2K minimize IE when the View Log button is pressed.
2. Updated Japanese.txt to add Msg52 = charset=shift_jis.
3. Modified ChineseT.txt to correct garbage characters in MSG6710.

Version 2.10 - (Wave Device INF Verification still turned off)
Bugs Fixed:
1. Modified core DLL to include .coinstallers sections of INF.
2. Polish text file had a few grammer changes added.

1. Removed Copper, Titanuim, Mercedes and J-Class modems.
2. Added new exceptions for Eclipse, Profidio, Zinc, Patron, Don Julio and Moon.
3. Had to add 2 new exceptions for Herradura and Chromium.


Version 2.095 - (Wave Device INF Verification still turned off)
Bugs Fixed:
1. Text files to provide translated messaging for Italian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Thai, and Korean
have been culturally validated for grammatical errors and updated in the build.
2. Text file for Polish has been reviewed and updated where obvious mistakes were seen, but it has not been through cultural validation.

3. Added new functions to seperatly find the Main INF on the system in Windir\inf, windir\inf\other or specified path.

Bugs Fixed:
1. Added new flow to determine if the operating system is supported.

5. Fixed Install Shield Script to prompt user if they are trying to uninstall and they do not have administrator rights.

Version 2.03.01 - First WW Release on Opti/Precision - Patron/Herredura modems
Updates to MDMinfo.inf:
1. Changed an exception line for Patron/XP that had a small letter "m" in place of a capital letter "M"; this caused MH to see the driver installation
as "bad" and it wanted to reinstall it.  This was somehow changed after build 2.02 and not caught by a file comparison program.

Version 2.03
Bugs Fixed:
1. Changed Reboot after uninstall screen in InstallShield (2k/xp) so it isn't the same screen seen during an installation reboot request.
2. Fixed removal of BVRP_PCI service under XP during an uninstall so that it consistently works.

Updates to MDMinfo.inf:
1.  Added preliminary support for Porfidio modem, Win 2K, Win XP.
2.  Added preliminary support for Eclipse MDC modem, Win 2K, Win XP.

Known Errata: 
1. Task bar isn't being covered in Windows 2000 on program launch.
2. Intermittent refresh issues with IE in Windows ME on a reboot/reinstall sequence.
3. Can't verify INF for Microsoft Wave Device for Voice Modem in ME, 2K, and XP without a new function specifically for that purpose.
4. Reboot/reinstall sequence should be changed to execute from "run" instead of "runonce" for better behavior.
5. Dirty installation over an existing installation causes folders inside of language folder to copy to the hard drive.

Bugs Fixed:
1. Added support for relative path variables in INFPATH=.
2. Cleaned up the logic flow and logging for INF file searching and verification.
3. Fixed Language folder updates when installing files external to the build to ensure files will be copied from US folder.
4. Fixed Multiple RegScan found after ME reboot reinstall.
5. Modified Install Shield Script to clean out Modem Helper folder even if there are read-only files present.
6. Modified Install Shield Script to un-register a Modem Helper DLL on an uninstall - adds reboot after 2K or XP uninstall.

1. Removed mediaresource exceptions that are no longer needed
2. Removed Timer=0 from all modem sections
3. Removed erroneous Verify lines from Bronze II and Steel II WinXP and Win2K sections
   that were added during testing of build 74.

Bugs Fixed:
1. Updated MDMCore.dll file in all languages to increase the dial tone check timer from five seconds to ten seconds.  This is
a patch for Sun in build 61 and will be added permanently to the code of Modem Helper starting with build 65 to prevent any possible
future issues from arising.  This will prevent the false failure of dial tone recognition when the Sun modem is set to certain countries.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
