1. Introduction
---------------

The SMSC IrCC NDIS Miniport Device Driver enables hardware containing 
an SMSC IrCC (Infrared Communications Controller) to communicate with 
IrDA Ver.1.1 compliant devices using wireless infrared technology for 
the purposes of communication, printing, and networking.  

This version of the driver updates SmcIrda.sys version 4.10.1999.2, 
which is supplied by Microsoft Windows Me operating system. 


2. Characteristics

	Controller) in SMSC I/O chip embedded on motherboard.

3. Updating Driver
------------------
	
Closing all Windows programs is strongly recommended when a updating 
driver.
	
In a system with PnP BIOS support for the IrCC, use the following 
procedure to update the driver from the one that is already in the 
system:
	
1.  Go to Control Panel -> System -> Device Manger. 
2.  Select Network adapters -> SMC IrCC (Infrared 
	Communications Controller) -> Properties -> Driver tab -> 
	“Update Driver…”.
3.  Choose “Specify a location”, and then “ Display a list
	of all 	the drivers in a specific location, so you can 
	select the driver you want.”  
4.  Click “Have Disk….”
5.  Insert the disk that contains the updated driver with INF 
	file, or point to the directory where they are located by 
	choosing “Browse…” and choose SMC IrCC (Infrared 
	Communications Controller) from Models.
6.  On the next dialog box, confirm that the path of the 
	“Location of driver” is the correct directory where the new 
	driver is located.
7.  Restart the computer when prompted to do so. (Do not forget to 
	eject floppy disk!)

4. Confirm Update
-----------------

To confirm the update of the driver, go to Control Panel -> System -> 
Device Manager -> Network adapters -> SMC IrCC (Infrared 
Communications Controller) -> Properties -> Driver. Confirm that the 
Date is 9-14-2000. This is the date stamp of ‘smcirdam.inf.’ Next, 
click “Driver File Details…” and select SMCIRDA.SYS. Confirm the File 
version is 4.10.1999.4.

5. Using Microsoft IrXfer
-------------------------

To transfer files using IrXfer, select a file (e.g., in Explorer), 
and right-click on it.  In the pop-up menu, select Send To -> 
Infrared Recipient. Default destination directory in the recipient 
machine is usually the desktop (C:\Windows\Desktop), but can be changed 
using the Properties Tab in the “Wireless Link” app.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
