Unzip.bns documentation

Unzip.bns is a new utility for the Millennium and Type Lite that will allow you to extract files from zip archives that are created with WinZip, or other utilities that can compress files using the zip format. There are several ways files can be opened with unzip.

1. Type O CHORD, X (F9, x), unzip, followed by the name of the zip file to open. There are also optional command line arguments you can use before typing the file name.

2. Type P CHORD (ALT+P) to bring up the programs menu. You can quickly launch unzip.bns by doing a DOT 8+U (CTRL+U) and you will be placed into a list of all the zip files on your notetaker. Note: this hot key will only work if unzip.bns is loaded into your unit. Navigate to the zip file to open and press E CHORD to open the file.

3. Open a .zip file from the files menu and if unzip.bns is in your unit, the file automatically opens in unzip.bns. Note: This feature will only work if you are running firmware revision 4.1 or later.

Command Line Arguments

There are three command line arguments that can be used.

-t Unzip will test the integrity of the zip archive. This might be useful if you are concerned that the zip file you wish to extract files from might be corrupted.

-d Using this argument followed by a folder name will extract files to the specified notetaker folder. Unless otherwise specified, files are extracted to ram startup. To extract files to flash, you must specify flash startup or another flash folder.

-p If a password is required to extract files from the archive, using this argument followed by the correct password, will allow you to extract the files.

The Unzip Interface

When you open a zip archive in unzip.bns, you will be placed into a list of all the files in the archive. To select files to be extracted, press SPACEBAR on the files you want as you arrow through the list. You can also press M CHORD to select all files or Y CHORD to unselect all files. Press E CHORD to extract the selected files. The program checks free space as it extracts, so if a file is going to exceed the room available in the unit the program skips it and moves on to the next file that will fit.

If the archive is password protected and you did not use the -p argument on the command line, you will be prompted to enter the password before the extraction can continue. You can also press T CHORD to test the integrity of selected files, or F CHORD to manually select a destination folder where you want files extracted to. Simply navigate to the folder you want to extract to and press E CHORD.

Unzip.bns also supports directory information in zip archives. For example, let's say you use WinZip to create an archive of files from a folder called "docs" on your pc. When you create the archive you specify that directory information be included. Now, if someone opens this archive on another machine, all of the files will be extracted to a folder called "docs." Unzip will work the same way. If directory information has been included in the archive, unzip will create that folder on the notetaker and extract all associated files to that folder. Note: Since the firmware does not support subfolders, if the zip archive contains subfolders, any files associated with those subfolders will be extracted to the top level folder that is created on the notetaker.
