DOC2TXT.TXT Driver File Contents (M40_V45.exe)

Doc2txt Instructions

Written: June 2003

The doc2txt program allows you to convert Microsoft Word documents into text files readable on the Millennium Series notetakers. For this program to work, it must be loaded onto your notetaker, and the notetaker firmware must be revision 4.1 or greater.

There are two ways to convert a .doc file using doc2txt. The fastest way is to select a .doc file from the file list and press O Chord (ALT+O on the Type Lite). Doc2txt automatically launches and converts the file to a text file of the same name.

The second way involves running doc2txt first, and telling the program which file to convert. You can run doc2txt, or any external program, from the file menu, from the programs menu, or by pressing X at the options menu. This method allows you to specify a different name for the output file, or other command line options.

Command Line Arguments

The following are command line arguments that you can use if you run doc2txt.bns from the programs menu or using O-chord X.

* -i<input filename>  Specifies input file.

* -o<output filename> Specifies output file. Note: You can still specify the input and output files without having to use -i or -o. For example, doc2txt <input file> <output file>. If no output file is specified, the input filename is used and just given a .txt extension.

* -h or -? Shows short usage info.

* -a Overwrite all without prompting.

* -r0 Prompts to delete the input file after conversion (default).
* -r1 Automatically deletes the input file after conversion.
* -r2 The input file is not deleted.

Limitations

Doc2txt only extracts text from the input file. No formatting information is retained. Because of this, documents with lots of formatting, such as tables, may contain some errors.

Only full-saved documents can be decoded, not quick-saved ones.

Password protected or encrypted documents are not supported.

Footers and headers are not extracted.

Limited support for non-english documents.
