ICP Controller Firmware Update
===============================

I. Updating through FRU Boot Floppy Disk

I. Updating through FRU Boot Floppy Disk

You will need:
Two empty, DOS formatted 3.5", 1.44MB floppy disks

1) extract the zip archive into an empty directory

2) create the Firmware Floppy Disk as follows 
	- copy either icp_rxfw.a?? for GDT8x22RZ controllers or icp_rxfw.c?? 
        for all other ICP U320/SATA/RAIDIOS controllers (?? = file version counter)
	  onto the first floppy disk	

3) create the FRU Boot Floppy Disk as follows
	- insert the second floppy disk into the floppy drive 
	- start rawrite.exe in the directory were the files have been extracted to
	- as file name type in fruu.img and press enter
	- type in the drive letter of the floppy drive
	- follow the further instructions

   Hint: On Linux you cannot use rawrite.exe, run 'dd' instead

4) Boot your system off the FRU Boot Floppy Disk

5) As soon as prompted by FRU remove the FRU Boot Diskette, insert the Firmware 
   Floppy Disk and follow the further instructions

*** DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET THE SYSTEM DURING FW UPDATE !!! ***

6) After the firmware update is completed the system has to be rebooted

7) The operating system drivers and tools should be updated as well

II. alternate, updating through ICPCON for DOS

You will need:
One DOS bootable 3.5", 1.44MB floppy disk
One empty, DOS formatted 3.5", 1.44MB floppy disk

Copy the following files to the floppy disks:
  - icpcon.exe onto the bootable floppy disk
  - icp_rxfw.??? the firmware file (??? = file version counter)
    onto the empty floppy disk

1) Boot the system to DOS 

2) Start ICPCON, select the Controller, change with "F4" to the
   "Advanced Setup", select "Configure Controller" and then "Firmware Update"

3) Remove the bootable disk and place the disk containing the ICP firmware file 
   in the floppy drive. Type the drive letter where the update disk is located 
   (e.g. A:) or simply enter "." for the current directory. Select the firmware 
   file by pressing Enter and follow the instructions of ICPCON.

*** DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET THE SYSTEM DURING FW UPDATE !!! ***

6) After the firmware update is completed you will be returned to the
   Configure Controller menue.
   Press "Esc" three times to exit. Press "Y" to quit.
   A message appears informing you that a firmware update has been detected.
   Remove the floppy disk and press "Enter" to reboot the system.

7) The operating system drivers and tools should be updated as well.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
