Description:

  1. W940S3.O is a SCO UNIX 3.x (Runtime v3.2.4x with TCP/IP v.1.2.1) driver.

     This driver is allowed to install on 4 LAN cards with Winbond 940 chips.

     This driver will automatically get IOBASE and IRQ of 940 chips from PCI
     Configuration Space.

     If there are more 940 cards than the installed board number, this driver
     will automatically select 940 cards to load.

     If the installed board number is more than the 940 card number, this
     driver will show warning messaage, and exits.


Installation:

  1. copy below files into root directory of one floopy disk.
     w940s3.o    940 SCO UNIX 3.x driver
     setup       setup program
     space.c     used by netconfig
     info        used by netconfig
     init        used by netconfig
     master      used by netconfig
     node        used by netconfig
     reconf      used by netconfig
     remove      used by netconfig
     system      used by netconfig

  2. Login as root user (on maintenance mode).

  3. Insert the floopy disk into floopy driver,
     copy setup file to SCO OS and change its attribute by below instructions
        doscp a:setup .
        chmod +x setup
     and execute setup
        ./setup  a:
     Then several files in item 1 will be copied to the right place.

  4. Execute netconfig :
     the user interface may be as below
        Available options:
          1. Add a chain
          2. Remove a chain
          3. Reconfigure an element in a chain
          4. Quit
        Select option :
        >> Select 1. Add a chain
        Select top level of chain to Add or q to quit:
        >> Select 1. sco_tcp
        Select next level of chain to Add or q to quit:
        >> Select the item number with the description of
              w940s30  Winbond W89C940 Ethernet Adapter, board 0.
        Add chain sco_tcp->w940s30 (y/n)
        >> type 'y'
        Enter the internet address of this interface
        >> type your IP address
        Enter the netmask for this interface
        >> type your netmask
        Does the interface use a broadcast address of all 1's (y/n) ?
        >> press Enter key
        Enter the boardcast address for this interface
        >> press Enter key
        Are these values correct ? (y/n)
        >> type 'y'
        Enter local host name or enter q to quit
        >> press your local host name
        XX Pseudo ttys are currently configured, do you want to:
          1. Add Pseudo ttys
          2. Remove Pseudo ttys
        Select an option or enter q to quit [q]
        >> press Enter key
        YY TCP Connections currently configured, do you want to:
          1. Add TCP Connections
          2. Remove TCP Connections
        Select an option or enter q to quit [q]
        >> press Enter key

        Available options:
          1. Add a chain
          2. Remove a chain
          3. Reconfigure an element in a chain
          4. Quit
        Select option :
        >> type 'q'
        Do you want to relink to kernel now ?
        >> type 'y'
        Do you want this kernel to boot by default (y/n)
        >> type 'y'
        Do you want the kernel environment rebuilt (y/n)
        >> type 'y'

  5. Reboot the SCO UNIX 3.x OS by order reboot command.


Use:

  1. If you want to run the driver on another 940 card, perform the following
     steps:
       a. Login as root user (on maintenance mode).
       b. Do the same step 4 in Installation, and Select the item number with
          the description of
              w940s31  Winbond W89C940 Ethernet Adapter, board 1.
       c. Reboot the SCO UNIX 3.x OS by order reboot command.


Trouble Shooting

  1. Message: 'w940s3: Initialization fails !
               No Winbond 940 board existed !'
     Solution: Make sure the 940 card is plugged into your system.

  2. Message: 'w940s3: Initialization fails !
               Winbond 940 board number < installed board number !
               board 0: IRQ=Y, Ethernet ID=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX'
     Solution: Plug the sufficient 940 cards into your system.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
