Daytona Readme

This Readme file will give you step-by-step instructions on how to install the drivers for the Daytona.  
Remember these are only the Drivers.  The applications are found on the Daytona CD.  
If you need another CD please contact Turtle Beach at 914-966-0600.  
Now lets get started.

For Windows 95/98:

1) First make sure that there are no leftover drivers from either the Daytona or other sound cards.
2) Unzip the Daytona drivers to an empty directory on your hard drive.
3) Restart the computer.   When the computer restarts it will find new hardware.
4) Point the browser to look at the directory where the drivers were unzipped.
5) The computer will install the drivers and then prompt you to restart.  
6) After restarting, the computer will finish installing the drivers.
7) You should now be up and running.
8) Have fun!

WINDOWS NT 4.0 INSTALLATION 

**  Make sure that you have the "Daytona NT" drivers UNZIPPED to an empty directory 
on your hard drive, before shutting off the Computer and installing the card.


BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE DRIVERS, NOTE 
Before installing the TBS Daytona Sound Drivers make sure that your BIOS is in 
non Plug-and-Play mode. For instructions on changing your BIOS, refer to your 
motherboard's manual.
Be sure to close down all other applications before installing the Dayton PCI. 
This is very important. The Daytona PCI sound card must be installed in your system. 
If you have not already installed the sound card in your PC, refer to the "Installing the Daytona PCI" chapter for instructions.
If the Daytona PCI is replacing a previous sound card, make certain you have removed all drivers for that card.

 INSTALLING THE DRIVERS IN WINDOWS NT 4.0
TO INSTALL THE TBS DAYTONA SOUND DRIVERS:
1. From the Windows Control Panel double-click the Multimedia icon.
2. Click the Devices tab and click the Add button. Select Unlisted or Updated Driver. 
3. Click the OK button.  
4. A dialog box appears and requests the path of the Daytona drivers to be installed. Point to the directory where the drivers are unzipped. 
5. Select the TBS Daytona PCI Sound Driver in the dialog box. Click OK. 
6. Windows NT may report that the file S3VSRDRV.DLL is already present on your system. 
7. Install the file provided with the TBS Daytona driver by clicking the New button.
8. Windows NT may display a dialog box asking you to restart your system.  Do not restart your system.
9. Click the Add button again and select Unlisted or Updated Drivers. Click the OK button.
10. A dialog box appears and requests the path of the location of the drivers to be installed. 
11. Point to the directory where the drivers are unzipped. Click the OK button.
12. Select the TBS Daytona PCI FM Synthesis Driver  in the dialog box.  Click OK. 
13. Windows NT may report that the file S3FMDRV.DLL is already present on your system. 
14. Install the file provided with the TBS Daytona driver by clicking the New button.
15. Windows NT may display a dialog box asking you to restart your system. Do not restart your system.
16. Click the Add button again, find and select the MPU-401 Compatible Driver from the list of drivers. Click OK.
17. A dialog box opens and requests the path of the location of the drivers to be installed. 
18. Place your Windows NT CD in the drive and locate the I386 directory. Click OK.

Installing the Generic MPU-401 drivers should also have installed a Low Level MIDI, WAV, AUX driver. 
If you previously installed the MPU-401 driver it's possible the low level driver was not installed.

To check, double-click on the MIDI Devices and Instruments category and see if the low level driver is listed. 
If it is not. Install the driver now by clicking the Add button, find and select the Low Level WAV, MIDI, AUX driver, click OK. 
A dialog box opens and requests the path of the location of the drivers to be installed. Place your Windows NT CD in the drive and locate the I386 directory. Click OK.
If you wish to install a joystick driver do not restart your system and go to the Installing Joystick Drivers section later in this chapter.
If you do not wish to install a joystick driver, click the Restart Now button when the System Settings Change warning message appears. 

SELECTING THE MIDI OUTPUT DEVICE:
1. From the Windows Control Panel double-click the Multimedia Icon. 
2. Select the MIDI tab.
3. Select FM Output if you wish to play MIDI through the internal FM synthesizer. 

Select MIDI Output if you wish to play MIDI though the internal wavetable synthesizer (Recommended.)

Select MIDI Output if you wish to play MIDI through an external synthesizer.
4. After selecting the MIDI output device, you should set the wavetable synthesizer's settings. Please see the Wavetable Synthesizer Settings section in this chapter.

WAVETABLE SYNTHESIZER SETTINGS
In order for the wavetable synthesizer to properly function you must choose the synthesizer settings.
TO CHOOSE THE WAVETABLE SETTINGS:
1. From the Windows Control Panel double-click the TBS Audio Icon.
2. You need to choose either 1 MB PC RAM or 2 MB PC RAM for the wavetable synthesizer to be enabled.

INSTALLING JOYSTICK DRIVERS
You may install TBS joystick drivers.  A Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro Joystick driver or a generic analog joystick driver can also be installed.  
TO INSTALL JOYSTICK DRIVERS:
1. From the Windows Control Panel double-click the Multimedia Icon.
2. Select the Devices tab and click the Add button.
3. If you want to install the Sidewinder 3D Pro Joystick driver, select it from the list of drivers and click OK. If you want to the TBS joystick drivers, select the Unlisted or Updated Driver entry and click OK.
4. The Install Driver dialog box appears and requests the location of 
the driver files. Point to the directory where the drivers are unzipped. 
and click OK.
5. Restart the system after installing the joystick drivers.
After restarting your system, if you have not done so already, you should  select the MIDI Output Device.

DEFAULT MIXER SETUP
The default setup for the mixer has CD Audio input muted. This means that no CD audio from your CD-ROM drive will be heard. To enable CD audio use either the Windows Sounds System Mixer or the AudioStation Mixer to un-mute the CD-Audio input.
TO ENABLE CD AUDIO USING THE AUDIOSTATION MIXER:
1. Double-click on the Turtle Beach System Tray Launcher to launch the AudioStation Mixer.
2. Click the mute button on the CD Audio input to un-mute it.

TROUBLESHOOTING: 
The Daytona PCI is assigned an IRQ by the BIOS. If you are having an IRQ conflict, you will need to go into your BIOS setup to select which IRQ is assigned to the slot in which you installed your Daytona PCI.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
