AT-2500 unattend.txt example I. Special Considerations ========================= Configuration of the AT-2500 Series PCI Ethernet adapter resources are under PCI control. For most applications, no setup other than normal installation of the network software is necessary. To change port settings, to manually view the card's configuration or to run Diagnostics, use the CardAssistant setup program, SETUP25.EXE. The SETUP utility only runs on DOS. If you do not have a DOS boot partition on your Windows NT drive, boot DOS from a floppy. To uninstall the driver, use the remove driver option from your Windows NT Network Control Panel. See section III Removing an Existing Driver. II. Installing the Standard Miniport Driver =========================================== If you are installing multiple adapter cards in a single, computer, complete the installation process for each card. 1. If the network adapter is already installed, reboot into Windows NT. If you have not installed the network adapter, shutdown the computer, turn it off and unplug it. Install the card by following the instructions included with your computer. Restart the computer into Windows NT. 2. On the Windows desktop, click Start, select Settings, and click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Network icon and select the Adapters tab. 4. Click the Add button. From the Select Network Adapter pop-up window choose the Have Disk button. 5. Insert the AT 2500 CardAssistant floppy into your floppy drive. The path to the drivers is: <Floppy>:\<root> 6. Select the appropriate Allied Telesyn Ethernet Adapter in the Select OEM Option dialog box. Then click OK. 7. In the Network Adapters dialog box, verify the correct AT-2500 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card appears in the list. Then click OK. 8. This completes the card installation. Windows NT prompts you to configure the protocols you will be using for network communications. When prompted to restart your computer, click Yes. III. Removing an Existing Driver ================================ 1. From the desktop, right-click Network Neighborhood and select Properties. 2. Select the Adapters tab. Highlight the adapter you want to remove, and click Remove. Click Yes, if prompted, in the Warning dialog box that is confirming you want to remove a Network Device from your system. 3. From the Network dialog box, verify that the selected adapter has been removed from the Network Adapters list. Then choose OK. 4. Close the Network dialog box, then click Yes when prompted to Restart the computer for the new settings to take effect. 5. After the Windows NT operating system shuts down, turn the power switch off and on. 6. Log on to Windows NT. The computer is now ready to have a new driver installed following the installation procedure in Section II. IV. Files Needed for Installation ================================= The following files are required for installation: \WINNT\A25v3m4.SYS--NDIS4 driver \WINNT\OEMSETUP.INF--OEM setup file for NT 4.0 \WINNT\AT2500.HLP--HELP file for the driver V. Advanced Properties ====================== The Advanced Properties are provided to support special functions that are supported by AT-2500 PCI Series Ethernet Adapter Cards. It is recommended that if you are not sure as to how these settings will affect your configuration, please contact your LAN Administrator before changing the advanced settings on an adapter card. To get to the Advanced Properties Section of the Allied Telesyn driver: A. On the Windows desktop, right click Network Neighborhood and select Properties. Select the Adapters tab. B. The Allied Telesyn AT-2500 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter will be listed in the Network Box. Highlight the network adapter, and choose the properties button. This will list the advanced properties and their values. Below is an explanation of the advanced properties. 1. Speed/Duplex - The AT-2500 Series Ethernet Adapters run on a Copper 10/100 connection. WARNING: The card and the connected device must be set to the same speed and duplex mode. Incorrectly forcing a specific speed or duplex mode may result in poor performance and data loss. Consult your LAN administrator before forcing a speed or duplex mode or if you don't know the capabilities of the attached device. 2. Magic Packet (Default: unchecked) - Magic Packet (Wake on LAN) is a property that allows an Administrator to "Wake Up" a computer that is in a powered-down state. Check your Motherboard Manual for Wake on LAN support and how to enable it in the system BIOS. For Magic Packet to work, the Wake on LAN Header on the Motherboard needs to be connected to the checked, the Allied Telesyn driver will enable Magic Packet, when unchecked this support will be disabled. More information is available on the floppy directory \info\wol.txt VI. Unattended Install 1. Using a workstation with administrative rights copy the entire \i386 directory from the "Windows NT 4.0" onto the server. 2. Create the directory '\i386\drvlib.nic\at2500' on the server (Where your NT4 source directory is located). 3. Copy the contents of the '\winnt' directory located on the "AT-2500TX 5.7 Driver Disk", into the newly created directory on your server: '\i386\drvlib.nic\at2500'. 4. Run SETUPMGR.EXE (located on the Windows NT 4.0 Server CD under \Support\Deptools\I386). 5. Under the General Setup Option, User Information tab, fill in the information requested. 6. Under the Networking Option, General tab, select Unattend Network Installation and Specify adapter to be installed. 7. Under Adapters tab, leave Adapter Section Name as SelectedAdaptersSection. 8. Select Add... and then for the adapter select Other (OEM adapter installation). 9. Select Parameters... and enter: Inf Option Name: AT2500 Location of OEM Files C:\$WIN_NT$.~LS\i386\DRVLIB.NIC\at2500 10. If needed select the Protocols tab, and add any protocols you require. 11. Select OK and then Save the file into the \i386 directory located on your server. 12. From the \i386 directory run Windows NT4 setup with the unattended switch. WINNT /s:. /u:unattend.txt VII.
