I. Special Considerations
==========================

Note: References to Win 9x or Windows 9x includes
Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME.

1. In some cases the default Realtek 8139 Driver may be
installed for the AT-2500 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter.
The Realtek 8139 Driver can be replaced with the
appropriate Allied Telesyn driver to ensure full
    functionality of the Ethernet Adapter.

2. Configuration of the AT-2500 Series PCI Ethernet
adapter resources are under PCI control. For most
applications, no setup other than normal installation
of the network software is necessary. To change port
settings, to manually view the card's configuration
or to run Diagnostics, use the Card Assistant setup
program, SETUP25.EXE. The SETUP utility only runs
   under DOS.

II. Automatic Installation - WinPrep
=====================================

1. Start Windows with no adapter installed in the system.
If you have installed the adapter before running
WinPrep, please go to Section III.

2. Insert the AT-2500 Card Assistant Diskette in your
floppy drive. Select "Start" then "Run" from the
Windows tray, enter "A:\Winprep" in the open window.

3. Click Next to run Winprep and it will copy the NDIS
drivers and configuration files to the appropriate
directories. Select Done when Winprep has completed,
    close all open windows.

4. Shut Down the system and physically install the
AT-2500 Series network card, and reboot. During system
boot the adapter will be automatically detected and the
OS may ask for the Win9x CD. After the driver is loaded
the system will require a reboot.

III. If You Installed the Card Before Running WinPrep
======================================================

1. In some cases the default Realtek 8139 driver may be
installed into the Device Manager. This driver can be
    replaced, please follow the steps.

2. Insert the AT-2500 Card Assistant Diskette in your
floppy drive. Select "Start" then "Run" from the
Windows tray, enter "A:\Winprep" in the open window.

3. Click Next to run Winprep and it will copy the NDIS
drivers and configuration files to the appropriate
directories. Select Done when Winprep has completed,
    close all open windows.

4. On the Windows desktop, right-click My Computer and
    select Properties.

6. Select the Device Manager tab. The network adapter will
be listed under Network Adapters. Right click the
present adapter and choose Remove and then OK. Have the
Windows 9x setup CD-ROM disc available. You may be
called on to copy support files for networking.

7. Restart the system. During system boot the adapter
will be automatically detected and may ask for the Win9x
CD. After the driver is loaded the system will require a
    reboot.

IV. Updating an Allied Telesyn Driver
=====================================

Please Note: This section will work for all versions of
Win9x/ME except Windows 95a. Also note that the latest
version of the AT2500 driver is available for download on
the Allied Telesyn web site. If you want to update an
already installed driver for your Allied Telesyn AT-2500
Series PCI Ethernet Adapter, follow these steps:

1. On the Windows desktop, right-click My Computer and
    select Properties.

2. Select the Device Manager tab. The Allied Telesyn
AT-2500 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter will be listed
under Network Adapters. Then right click the Network
adapter, and choose properties. Insert the
    CardAssistant CD.

3. Press the Update Driver button and answer No, select
driver from list or Display a list when prompted to
let Win9x search for a driver. Click Have Disk.

4. Enter the path to the required files containing the
AT-2500 Series driver files, e.g. For the floppy Drive,
    <Floppy Drive>:\<root> Then click OK.

5. Select the Allied Telesyn AT-2500 Series PCI
    Ethernet Adapter and press OK.

6. After Windows 9x has copied the driver files,
    reboot the machine.

V. Removing an Existing Driver
==============================

1. On the Windows desktop, right click My Computer
    and select Properties.

2. Select the Device Manager button. The network adapter
will be listed under Network Adapters. Right click
the present adapter and choose Remove and then OK.

VI. Files Needed for Installation
=================================

The following files are required for installation:

\A25v3M3.SYS-NDIS3 driver
\A25v3M4.SYS-NDIS4 driver
\A25v5M5.SYS-NDIS5 driver
\ATINDI.DLL-AUTO NDIS
\NETATI25.INF-OEM setup file for Windows 9x
\WINPREP.EXE-Pre-installation utility
\NETATI25.CPY-Winprep version of NETATNIC.INF

VII. How to See MAC Address
===========================

To determine a MAC address for a card:

1. The best way to determine a MAC Address assigned to a
Network Adapter is to run WINIPCFG.EXE. Click the Start
Button, choose Run..., and type "winipcfg". This will
display IP devices and their associated MAC addresses.

Note: If you are not using the TCP/IP protocol, another
method to determine the MAC address is to boot the computer
into DOS with no drivers loaded and run Setup from the
Card Assistant Disk. To enter DOS mode in Windows 9x/ME,
reboot and press F8 when the "Starting Windows 9x" message
appears. Select the Command prompt only option. Or you can
use a Windows Startup disk. Insert the CardAssistant
in the floppy drive and launch SETUP: type a:\setup25. The
main screenshows a table listing the AT-2500 Series PCI
Ethernet adapter installed in the computer. Write down the
address(es) listed in the "MAC" column of the table.

VIII. Advanced Properties
=========================

The Advanced Properties are provided to support special
functions that are supported by AT-2500 PCI Series
Ethernet Adapter Cards. It is recommended that if you are
not sure as to how these settings will affect your
configuration, please contact your LAN Administrator before
changing the advanced settings on an adapter card.

To get to the Advanced Properties Section of the
Allied Telesyn driver:

A. On the Windows desktop, right click Network Neighborhood
and select Properties. For Windows ME: right click
My Network Places and select Properties.

B. The Allied Telesyn AT-2500 Series PCI Ethernet
Adapter will be listed under the Network Components Box.
Highlight the Network adapter, and choose the properties
button. Select the Advanced tab. This will list the
advanced properties and their values when highlighted.
Below is an explanation of the advanced properties.

    1. Magic Packet (Default: Off) - Magic Packet(Wake on
Lan) is a property that allows an Administrator to
"Wake Up" a computer that is in a powered down state.
Check your Motherboard Manual for Wake on Lan support
and how to enable it in the BIOS. For Magic Packet
to work, the Wake on Lan Header on the Motherboard
needs to be connected to the AT-2500 Series PCI
Ethernet Adapter Card. When on, the Allied Telesyn
driver will enable Magic Packet, when off this
support will be disabled. More information is
available on the floppy under the directory
       \info\wol.txt

    2. NDIS Driver Version (Default: Auto Select) - By
default, this property will automatically select the
proper NDIS driver version for your Windows Operating
System. This can be manually overridden by selecting
which NDIS driver version you would like to use
       (NDIS 3, 4, or 5).

Note: Windows 95a supports only the NDIS 3 driver and
Windows 95b supports only the NDIS 3 and NDIS 4 driver.

    3. Network Address (LAA) (Default: Not Present) - This
property overrides the network address of the network
adapter card. The value of this parameter is a
       hexadecimal string of 12 digits, e.g. 00001A180123.
The address must be unique among all other network
adapter addresses on the network. To enter in a
Network address, enter in a new value into the
       value box.

Warning: This setting is not recommended unless the user
is familiar with its use and implications.

   4. Speed/Duplex - The AT-2500 Series Ethernet Adapters
run on a Copper 10/100 connection

WARNING: The card and the connected device must be set to
the same speed and duplex mode. Incorrectly forcing a
specific speed or duplex mode may result in poor
performance and data loss. Consult your LAN administrator
before forcing a speed or duplex mode or if you don't
know the capabilities of the attached device.
