I. Special Considerations
==========================
1. In most cases the default Realtek 8139 Driver present in
Windows 2000 will be installed for the AT-2500 Series PCI
Ethernet Adapter. The Realtek 8139 Driver can be replaced
with the appropriate Allied Telesyn driver to ensure full
functionality of the Ethernet Adapter.
2. Configuration of the AT-2500 Series PCI Ethernet
adapter resources are under PCI control. For most
applications, no setup other than normal installation
of the network software is necessary. To change port
settings, to manually view the card's configuration
or to run Diagnostics, use the Card Assistant setup
program, SETUP25.EXE. The SETUP utility only runs
under DOS.
II. Automatic Installation - WinPrep
====================================
1. Start Windows 2000 with no network adapter installed
in the system. If you have installed the adapter before
running WinPrep, please go to Section III.
2. Insert the AT-2500 Card Assistant Diskette in your
floppy drive. Select "Start" then "Run" from the
Windows tray, enter "A:\Winprep" in the open window.
3. Click Next to run Winprep and it will copy the NDIS
drivers and configuration files to the appropriate
directories. Select Done when Winprep has completed,
close all open windows.
4. Shut Down the system, install the network adapter,
and reboot. During system boot the network adapter
will be automatically detected and the NDIS 5 driver
installed. Click Yes if you see the Microsoft Digital
Signature Not Found message.
III. If You Installed the Card Before Running WinPrep
=====================================================
1. In some cases the default Realtek 8139 driver present
in Windows 2000 will be detected and installed into the
Device Manager. This driver will need to be replaced.
2. Insert the AT-2500 Card Assistant Diskette in your
floppy drive. Select "Start" then "Run" from the
Windows tray, enter "A:\Winprep" in the open window.
floppy drive.
3. Click Next to run Winprep and it will copy the NDIS
drivers and configuration files to the appropriate
directories. Select Done when Winprep has completed,
close all open windows.
4. On the Windows desktop, right-click My Computer and
select Properties.
5. Select the Hardware tab, and click the Device Manager
button. The network adapter will be listed under
Network Adapters. Right click the present adapter
and choose Uninstall and then OK.
6. Shut Down the system, install the network adapter,
and reboot. During system boot the network adapter
will automatically be detected and the NDIS 5 driver
will be installed. Click Yes if you see the
Microsoft Digital Signature Not Found message.
IV. Updating an Allied Telesyn Driver
=====================================
Please note that the latest version of the AT-2500
Series driver is available for download on the Allied
Telesyn web site.
If you want to update an already installed driver for your
Allied Telesyn AT-2500 series PCI Ethernet Adapter,
follow these steps:
1. On the Windows desktop, right click My Computer and
select Properties.
2. Select the Hardware tab, and click the Device Manager
button. The network adapter will be listed under
Network Adapters. Then right click the Network adapter,
and choose properties. Insert the CardAssistant floppy.
3. Select the Drivers tab, then select the Update driver
button.
4. The Upgrade Device Driver Wizard starts. Click Next,
then choose Search for suitable driver then click Next.
5. Select Specify a location. Click Next. Browse to the
path on the floppy <a:>\, click Open and then
click OK. Windows locates the file NETATI25.INF then
click Next.
6. Click Finish and then Close, now you should see
listed under Network adapters in Device Manager the
Allied Telesyn 2500 PCI Ethernet adapter.
V. Removing an Existing Driver
==============================
1. On the Windows desktop, right click My Computer and
select Properties.
2. Select the Hardware tab, and click the Device Manager
button. The network adapter will be listed under
Network Adapters. Right click the present adapter and
choose Uninstall and then OK.
VI. Files Needed for Installation
=================================
The following files are required for installation:
\A25V3M5.SYS--NDIS 5.0 driver)
\NETATI25.INF--OEM setup file for Windows)
\WINPREP.EXE--Pre-installation utility)
\NETATI25.CPY--WinPrep version of NETATNIC.INF)
VII. How to See MAC Address
===========================
To determine the MAC address for a NIC:
Click the Start Button and Select Run. Type "cmd" and
click OK. Now in the DOS shell, type the command
"IPCONFIG /ALL", this will list all IP devices and their
associated MAC(Physical) addresses.
Note: If you are not using the IP protocol, another
method is to Boot the computer into DOS with no drivers
loaded. Insert the CardAssistant disk 1 in the floppy
drive and launch SETUP: type a:\setup25. The main screen
shows a table listing the AT-2500 Series PCI
Ethernet adapters installed in the computer. Write
down the address(es) listed in the "MAC"
column of the table.
IX. Advanced Properties
=======================
The Advanced Properties are provided to support special
functions that are supported by AT-2500 PCI Series
Ethernet Adapter Cards. It is recommended that if you
are not sure as to how these settings will affect your
configuration, please contact your LAN Administrator
before changing the advanced settings on an adapter
card.
To get to the Advanced Properties Section of the Allied
Telesyn driver:
1. On the Windows desktop, right click My Computer
and select Properties.
2. Select the Hardware tab, and click the Device Manager
button. The network adapter will be listed under
Network Adapters. Then right click the Network adapter,
and choose properties. Select the Advanced tab. This
will list the advanced properties and their values
when highlighted. Below is an explanation of the
advanced properties.
1. Magic Packet (Default: Off) - Magic Packet
(Wake on Lan) is a property that allows an
Administrator to "Wake Up" a computer that is in a
powered down state. Check your Motherboard Manual for
Wake on Lan support and how to enable it in the
system BIOS. For Magic Packet to work, the Wake on
Lan Header on the Motherboard needs to be connected to
the AT-2500 Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Card. When
on, the Allied Telesyn driver will enable Magic Packet,
when off this support will be disabled. More
information is available on the floppy drive under the
directory <floppy_drive>:\info\wol.txt eg.. a:\info\wol.txt
2. Network Address (LAA) (Default: Not Present) - This
parameter overrides the network address of the
network adapter card. The value of this parameter is
a hexadecimal string of 12 digits, e.g. 00001A180123.
The address must be unique among all other network
adapter addresses on the network. To enter in a Network
address, enter in a new value into the value box.
Warning: This setting is not recommended unless the user
is familiar with its use and implications.
3. Speed/Duplex - The AT-2500 Series Ethernet Adapters run
on a Copper 10/100 connection
WARNING: The card and the connected device must be set
to the same speed and duplex mode. Incorrectly forcing a
specific speed or duplex mode may result in poor
performance and data loss. Consult your LAN
administrator before forcing a speed or duplex mode or
if you don't know the capabilities of the attached
device.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
