Creating a Bootable SRAM Card ============================= Adtron Files: CPYBOOT.EXE - Utility to copy boot sector from floppy drive SBOOT.BAT - Batch file to automate formatting of memory card SBOOT.TXT - This file User Files: BOOT.DAT - Boot sector file (see below) ? - I/O System file ? - DOS System file ? - DOS Command processor file CONFIG.SYS AUTOEXEC.BAT Application and/or data files... In order to boot DOS from a memory card, the memory card must be formatted and must have the operating system files present and in the correct locations. At a bare minimum, a boot sector, an I/O system file, a DOS system file, and a command processor are required on the memory card to successfully boot DOS. The boot sector to be used on the memory card is taken from a formatted floppy disk. The BOOT.DAT file should be taken from a disk formatted by the same version of the target operating system. You will also need to know the names of the system/hidden files which your operating system uses. O/S I/O_SYSTEM_FILE DOS_SYSTEM_FILE COMMAND_PROCESSOR_FILE --- --------------- --------------- ---------------------- MS-DOS IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS COMMAND.COM PC-DOS IBMBIO.COM IBMDOS.COM COMMAND.COM DR-DOS IBMBIO.COM IBMDOS.COM COMMAND.COM Procedure ========= 1. Use CPYBOOT.EXE to copy the boot sector from a formatted floppy disk of any size to the file BOOT.DAT. Example: C:\> cpyboot b: boot.dat This will read from the floppy disk drive B: and will create a file named BOOT.DAT on your hard drive. The following step assumes MS-DOS as the operating system. If you are running a different operating system, then edit the SBOOT.BAT file and fill in the correct filenames. 2. Run the batch file SBOOT.BAT. This will invoke Card Manager (CMGRC) with the appropriate parameters to format an SRAM memory card for booting. - DISCLAIMER - The use of certain files as part of an application software package may be subject to restrictions set forth in various license agreements, both implicit and explicit.
