Adtron Accent-LCF / Accent-LPC 12-01-1997 =========================================== Windows 95 Windows NT 4.00 DOS/Windows 3.x Contents: = LPT Modes = Using the Accent with a Printer = PC Card Support = SRAM cards = DOS/Windows 3.x Device Driver LPT Modes ========= The supported LPT modes for Windows 95, Windows NT, and DOS are shown below: OS Driver Filename Modes -- --------------- ----- Windows 95 ACCENT95.MPD Normal (SPP), BID, ECP Windows NT ACCENTNT.SYS Normal (SPP), BID, ECP DOS ACCENT.SYS Normal (SPP), ECP The default LPT mode for the Accent is Normal (SPP). If your system supports ECP, choose this during the installation. You may need to enter your computer's BIOS setup to change the LPT mode to ECP. Consult your system documentation for more information about the BIOS setup. If you change the LPT mode, power-cycle the computer (turn off the power and then back on). Using the Accent with a Printer =============================== The Accent supports printer pass-through, which allows a printer to be connected and used while the Accent is also in use. However, if you are printing and transferring files with the Accent at the same time, both operations will be noticably slower. *** NOTE *** Some incompatibilities exist between the Accent and certain printers. If you have a printer attached to the Accent, it may need to be turned ON in order for the Accent to operate properly. Additionally, there are some printers in which simultaneous access to the Accent and the attached printer may result in a stalled or errant condition. PC Card Support =============== The Accent-LPC only recognizes ATA PC Cards (PCMCIA) that support LBA (Logical Block Addressing) mode. This includes SanDisk and most other ATA Flash cards and hard disks. The Accent-LPC will blink the LED approximately once a second if it does not recognize a PC Card. This could be due to the ATA PC Card not supporting LBA mode. Contact the manufacturer of any new PC Cards if you are experiencing this problem. SRAM Cards ========== Currently, the Accent-LPC does not support SRAM memory cards. DOS/Windows 3.x Device Driver ============================= The Accent device driver for DOS/Windows 3.x is called ACCENT.SYS and must be loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file. The device driver defaults are LPT1 and SPP Mode. The driver will try to use ECP mode if the hardware is available, and will always display the version number of the socket firmware. There are a number of parameters that may be added to the command line to handle different situations: DEVICE=C:\ADTRON\ACCENT.SYS [options] /p1 - use LPT1 (default) /p2 - use LPT2 /p3 - use LPT3 /p378 - use the LPT port at address 0x378 /p278 - use the LPT port at address 0x278 /n - Force Normal (SPP) mode /i - show the ID and Version of the Printer Pass-Through adapter These parameters may be combined in any order, but only use one of each type. Example: DEVICE=C:\ADTRON\ACCENT.SYS /p1 /n /i Parameter descriptions: "/pn or /pxxx" The Accent can work on any LPT port and the driver must address the correct port. When not specified, the driver will address LPT1. If the Accent is not connected to LPT1, the /p switch must be used to specify the correct port. Either the LPT number (/p1, /p2, /p3), or the absolute I/O location (e.g., /p378) may be provided. "/n" If ECP mode is not available in the hardware, a message will be displayed and the drive will operate in SPP mode. The driver may have a problem determing if ECP is available with some hardware. If so, use the /n switch to force SPP mode. "/i" The Accent has two parts, the socket, where the card is inserted, and the Printer Pass-through Adapter or PPA, that connects to the LPT port. There is firmware in both the socket and the PPA, and it is sometimes necessary to determine the version number of these units. The socket version name and number are displayed when the device driver is loaded. To display the name and version number of the PPA, add the /i switch.Download Driver Pack
