COURIER I-MODEM X2 UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS Upgrading your Courier I-modem to x2 is a two step process: Step 1: Firmware supporting x2 must be downloaded to the modem Step 2: Dial a BBS to configure the x2 security feature Each of these steps is described in more detail below. Note: The initial release of x2 for Courier is for the US and Canada only. You can interact directly with our TOTALservice Online web site and BBS for your x2 upgrade. You will need your x2 enable key to complete the upgrade. If you registered for a free x2 upgrade prior to February 28, 1997, the x2 enable key will be sent to you via electronic mail. The keys will be mailed out over a few days. If you do not receive your enable key by March 19, 1997, you can goto http://totalservice.usr.com/upgrade or call 888-USR-XTWO (888-877-9896) to obtain your enable key. If did not register for a free upgrade, you can goto http://totalservice.usr.com/upgrade or call 888-USR-XTWO (888-877-9896) to obtain your free x2 enable key. Customers who have many modems to register (such as a corporate office) can register by sending a letter to: U.S. Robotics 1800 W. Central Rd. Mt. Prospect, IL 60056-6010 attn: x2 Program Administrator Letters can also be faxed to 847-342-6744 (attn: x2 Program Administrator). The letter should include your Company Name, Contact Name, Contact Phone Number, Contact Fax Number, Contact Internet E-mail Address (very important), and Contact Address. To activate x2 in your Courier I-Modem: 1. Update the firmware in your Courier I-Modem (please see INSTALL.TXT or XMODEM.TXT). 2. Call the BBS at 888-877-9249 (888-USR-X24Y) to configure the x2 security feature. Please use the login "X2 UPGRADE" when accessing the BBS to enable to x2 security feature. This will automatically send you to the x2 registration application. After successfully completing these steps, the user will need to reset the modem by turning it off, waiting a few seconds, then turning the modem on again. Note: After updating the firmware in your modem and configuring the x2 security feature, you must reset your modem. To reset your modem, turn it off, wait a few seconds, then turn the modem back on again. After resetting, an easy way to verify that x2 is enabled in your Courier modem is to use the ATI7 command to display the "U.S. Robotics Configuration Profile" screen. In particular, you are interested in seeing if x2 is displayed on the Options line. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
