@ Installing Software:

To install the SCO Unix MDI Device Driver:

   Copying the distribution files
   ------------------------------

   1. Copy the file ALN310TX.Z to aln310tx.Z (Z is upper case) on a SCO Unix machine. (You must change directory to the "root" directory, using

	  cd <enter> and doscp a:aln310tx.z aln310tx.Z)

   2. Uncompress aln310tx.Z to aln310tx, using:

          uncompress aln310tx

   3. Copy the file to a diskette. To prepare and create a "new" (remove the "old") 3.5 inch floppy in drive 0, use:

          dd if=aln310tx of=/dev/rfd0135ds18

   4. Mark the diskette:
         AcerLAN ALN-310 10/100 Base-TX Fast Ethernet Adapter
         Release Ver:1.20

   5. Put the distribution diskette in the drive.

   6. Run custom. From the menu select:
	<< Before SCO Open Server 5.0.4 >>
Software -> Install New -> From Host -> Media Floppy -> Full

	<<SCO Open Server 5.0.4>>
Software -> Install New -> From Host -> Media Floppy -> Install
You can use the key [TAB] to change the different commands window.

   7. When custom has completed, remove the diskette and quit custom.

   8. Run netconfig. Add the desired chain. The ALN-310 drivers are called:
	"AcerLAN ALN-310 - PCI Bus# 0,PCI Device# 8,PCI Function# 0"

It decides to PCI slot about PCI Device number (here it is 8).

NOTE: For boards with more than one AcerLAN adapter on them,
a driver must be installed for each active port on the
board. Thus, if a board has two separate ports, two separate
chains must be created in order to connect both ports to
networks. This is similar to installing two boards, each with
               one port.

Not all ports must be active.

   9. You can change the default value of the media by using the
"Advanced Options..." option in the menu.

  10. When the chain has been configured, select "Exit" from the netconfig menu, if you don't wish to modify the space.c file relink the kernel
      at the prompt.

  11. If you wish to change parameters in the space.c file, edit
/etc/conf/pack.d/d21x/space.c and make the required changes.
The changes will apply to all the installed boards.

NOTE: After you select "Exit", SCO UNIX will have some queries,
you should select "Y" in every query.

  12. To activate the adapter, you must "reboot". Using

	reboot <enter>

When the system boots, you should see the following message
among the other configuration message :

      %d21x 0x2000-0x2200 5 - type=21140/100TX addr=12-34-56-78-9a-bc

with the appropriate I/O addresses, IRQ, serial media and IEEE address.

Where d21x and 21140 are Digital Equipment Corporation's chip set.
