FIR Installation Procedure:  February 12,1998
1.To Remove a COM2 Port
  a.Select:Control Panel--System--Ports[COM&LPT]
  b.Select:Communication Port[COM2]
  c.Click:Remove button

2.SMC FIR Port Installation
  a.Select:Control Panel--Add New Hardware
    When the Add New Hardware Wizard asks whether to search for the new
    hardware, select the "NO" botton.
  b.Select:Ports[COM&LPT]
    When prompted for the type of port to install, select "Have Disk".
  c.Insert the utility cd_rom to cd_rom driver and
    key in d:\FIR\smc769\WIN95\ then to press enter.
  d.Choose:"SMC IrCC[Fast Infrared] Hardware and Driver" and click "NEXT".

3.SMC FIR Installation 
  a.Select:Control Panel--Add New Hardware
    When the Add New Hardware Wizard asks whether to search for the new
    hardware, select the "NO" botton.
  b.Select:Infrared
  c.Choose:"Built-in Infrared port on laptop or desktop" and click "NEXT".
  d.Choose:"SMC Ircc[Fast Infrared] Hardware and Driver[COM2]" and click "NEXT".
  
4.Installing the Infrared Framer Driver for SMC IrCC
  a.Select:d:\FIR\smc769\WIN95\SMCIRLAP.INF and click right button of mouse
    then selecting "Install" to finish the installation procedure.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
