Network Drivers Installation Notes


WINDOWS NT AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS NETWORKING


This document describes how to configure the 3C562 card for
use with Windows NT v3.51 (Server or Workstation), Windows
NT 4.0, and Microsoft Windows Networks.

If you have Windows NT v3.50 or earlier, you will need to
upgrade your system to v3.51 or later. Versions prior to 
Windows NT v3.51 do not have PC card support, and therefore
do not support the 3C562 card.

NOTE: The following instructions assume that you have not 
      installed any other network adapter in the machine. 
      If you have been using a network connection on your
      computer, some of the following instructions may not
      apply or may produce different results.  Refer with
      your MIS department for instructions.


Instructions for Windows NT v. 3.51
===================================

Before installing the network driver, you should know the
following:

      - Transport used in the Microsoft Windows Network
      - Name of the NT Server domain or Windows 95/WFW 3.11
        Workgroup to which you belong.

Also, for a successful installation, you will need:

      - Windows NT system installation files (either on
        hard disk, floppy diskettes, or CD)
      - 3C562 LAN+Modem card and the accompanying EtherDisk
        diskette 
        

Installation instructions:

 1. Turn on the computer and log on.

 2. Go to the MAIN group and select the Control Panel icon.

 3. From the Control Panel, select the Network icon.

 4. When the system prompts:

    Windows NT Networking is not installed. Install it now?

    click YES.

 5. This opens the Windows NT Setup window. Be prepared to
    enter the name of the drive or directory where your NT
    system installation files reside. When ready, click
    CONTINUE.

 6. Click DO NOT DETECT. Windows NT does not fully support
    Plug and Play and cannot automatically detect the 
    LAN+Modem card.

 7. When the ADD NETWORK ADAPTER dialog box appears, it
    displays a list of adapter names. Click the down arrow
    until you can select:

    <Other> Requires disk from manufacturer

 8. When the list of adapters closes, click CONTINUE. This
    opens the INSERT DISK dialog box and prompts you for 
    the location of a driver file. The driver file is 
    located on the EtherDisk in the root directory.
    Type the directory path, A:\ and click OK.

 9. Select 3Com EtherLink III LAN+Modem PC Card (3C562D/3C563D)
    and click OK. 

    For installation purposes, the 28.8 and 33.6 versions of the
    LAN+Modem card are identical.

10. Enter the settings for the LAN+Modem card.  Since 
    Windows NT currently does not support Plug and Play, you
    must supply the appropriate settings for the card. In 
    most cases, the default settings will work, but if you
    are unsure about what settings to use, ask your system
    administrator or MIS department. When the settings are
    entered, click OK to open the Windows NT Setup dialog 
    box.

11. In the Windows NT Setup dialog box, select the network
    transport protocol that Windows NT will use. The TCP/IP
    transport will already be selected for use. If you have
    no specific reason to use TCP/IP, you may delete it now.

    In this dialog box, select the transport appropriate for
    the network client. Most Microsoft NT networks use the
    NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport. If you are not sure,
    ask your system administrator or MIS department.

    When Windows NT Setup is complete, click OK to open the
    Network Settings dialog box.

12. Click CONTINUE to open the Windows NT Setup screen.
    Supply the name of the drive or directory where your NT
    system installation files reside and click CONTINUE.
    This returns you to the Network Settings dialog box.
 
13. Click OK to open the NW Link IPX/SPX Protocol Configuration
    dialog box. For most networks, AUTO DETECTED will work.
    When done selecting the frame type, click OK.

14. The next window is the Domain/Workgroup Settings window.
    Select the appropriate domain or workgroup name for
    Windows Networking and click OK.  (This name has nothing
    to do with the Novell client.)

When these steps are complete, you must restart your computer.
Remove the EtherDisk diskette from Drive A and press the
Restart button.

Instructions for Windows NT v. 4.0
==================================

Windows NT 4.0 Driver Installation

Before installing the driver, make sure that PCMCIA services are
running on your system.

 1. Select the Device option from the Control Panel.

 2. Scroll down the Device list and search for PCMCIA. The device
    status field should indicate that STATUS is set for Started
    and STARTUP is set for Boot.

 To install the LAN driver:

 1. Select Network from the Control Panel.

 2. Open the Adapters tab and click Add.

 3. Select Have Disk. 

    You are prompted for the software provided by the hardware
    manufacturer.

 4. Type the following directory path and click OK:

    a:\

 5. Select 3Com EtherLink III LAN+Modem PC Card (3C562D/3C563D)
    and click OK. 

    For installation purposes, the 28.8 and 33.6 versions of the
    LAN+Modem card are identical.

 6. At the Network Settings prompt, set the following options:

    - I/O Port Address

    - Memory Address

    - Network Interrupt (identical to modem interrupt)

    - Media Type

    - LANOnly Mode - Disable for normal usage. Enable for
      intensive network data transfers. Note that enabling
      LANOnly Mode disables the modem function.

    - COM Port - The communications port used by the modem.
      Be sure to select an unused COM port. Make sure the
      port is not being used by another device, such as a
      built-in infrared port.

 7. After configuring the network settings, click OK, then click
    Close.

    Restart the computer for the new hardware settings to take
    effect. Put the EtherDisk diskette in the floppy drive and
    click OK.

 8. From the list of models, select 3C562D/3C563D (your version of
    the LAN+Modem card) and click Next.

    Select a port for the modem. Make sure the "Selected ports"
    option is enabled and highlight the port from the list. This port
    should match the COM port setting made previously in "Changing
    the COM Port Setting," above.

 9. Click NEXT.

10. At the Local Information prompt, enter the appropriate values
    for the requested fields and click NEXT.

11. Click FINISH to exit the program.

When these steps are complete, you must restart your computer.
Remove the EtherDisk diskette from Drive A and click the
Restart button.
