MicroTouch TouchWare for Microsoft Windows Version 5.6, January 2001 Copyright 1991-2001 MicroTouch Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. ____________________________________________ PLEASE NOTE: Due to problems reported just prior to this release, PS/2 support under Windows 2000 has been disabled. These issues should be quickly resolved and will be included in TouchWare 5.61. Please visit our website for updates. PRODUCT SUMMARY --------------------------------- TouchWare for Windows is the software for your MicroTouch touchscreen. It allows users to select, launch, and drag objects using the touchscreen. TouchWare provides full touchscreen functionality for all applications running under Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, and Windows 9X. It uses a true 32-bit implementation of the driver and control panel to implement touchscreen support. ENHANCEMENTS --------------------------- * TouchWare 5.6 now supports: - TouchPen with a right click button. - Reassigning COM ports in multiple touchscreen setups. - Surprise disconnects in Windows 2000 USB driver. KNOWN ANOMALIES -------------------------------- * TouchWare does not support the "hibernation" shut down mode in Windows 2000. * TouchWare does not always recognize MicroTouch MousePort controllers. When this happens, the MousePort driver disables the keyboard. In this case, you must uninstall TouchWare to regain the keyboard. This appears to happen on some Dell PC's due to BIOS incompatibilities. * In planning to use a touchscreen without a mouse or keyboard installed, you must first remove the mouse and reboot. Then, using the keyboard, you can disable the Windows dialog warning "Mouse not found". Finally, remove the keyboard and reboot the system. * If you uninstall TouchWare, you should restart the system before installing a new version of the software. * If you attempt to attach an additional USB device to your system after installing TouchWare, you may lose touch functionality during installation of that device. You should keep a keyboard or mouse attached to the system during USB device installation. * TouchWare does not support the custom directory option for serial multiple touchscreen configurations. * If you are installing a MousePort controller, you must uninstall any previous TouchWare version and disconnect as well as disable any existing PS/2 mouse drivers/hardware prior to installing the new TouchWare version. Verify IRQ 12 is not being used by the system. Even if the hardware is disconnected, the system may still be claiming the IRQ. Note: Some styles of laptop mice cannot be physically removed. However, they can usually be disabled. * The setup program does not remove the DOSTOUCH program from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file during a Windows 95 upgrade installation. * The setup program will only look for the default directories for previous TouchWare versions on the target system when doing a Windows 95 upgrade installation. * Some older video cards may cause conflicts with COM 4. Refer to Article ID: Q127138 in the Microsoft Technical Support Knowledge base for further information. * If you are using a ThruGlass controller, you may have difficulty making selections at the top or bottom of the screen. To correct the problem, select ThruGlass Configuration -> Diagnostics -> Auto Frequency. HARDWARE SUPPORT ------------------------------------ This version of TouchWare supports multiple monitor configurations for serial and USB systems. However, TouchWare does not support the use of multiheaded video cards. TouchWare requires a separate video card for each monitor. The hardware listed below has been tested as of this release.
