OLYMPUS P-400 Printer Driver for Windows 2000/XP
=================================================


Driver Installation/Removal Precautions:
=========================================
1. This driver is compatible with Windows 2000/XP only.

2. Before re-installing the printer driver (on a PC where the driver has already been installed), 
   be sure to uninstall the existing driver first.  Use either of the following methods to uninstall
   the driver.

 a. In "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel, select "OLYMPUS P-400 printer"  and press the 
   "Add/Remove" button and then follow the on-screen prompts.
 b. Execute the "Setup.exe" icon located in the P-400 driver folder or CD-ROM as described later 
    in this document.

3. Deleting the printer icon in the "Printers" Control Panel will no uninstall the printer driver.

4. After uninstalling the existing driver, reboot the PC before reinstalling the driver.

5. If you wish to change the P-400 interface from parallel to USB or vice versa, you must uninstall
   and then reinstall the P-400 printer driver following the installation instructions below.

6. If the existing printer driver cannot be uninstalled correctly, consult your nearest Olympus 
   support center for assistance.


Installation Instructions:
==========================
Note:  You must log in as Administrator before you install this driver software.
DO NOT POWER ON THE PRINTER UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO!

1. Open the P-400 driver folder and double-click "Setup.exe" to begin the installation. (If you are
   replacing a previous P-400 installation, please follow the on-screen  prompts to remove the 
   existing software, and then click "Setup.exe" again to install the new driver.)

2. Click "YES" to accept the license agreement or click "NO" to cancel the installation. (A message 
   may appear indicating the driver has not passed Windows logo testing. Click "Continue Anyway" to
   proceed with the installation.)

3. When prompted, connect and power on the P-400 printer.  The "Found New Hardware" window appears.

4. Select "Install the software automatically", and then click "Next".  (A message may appear 
   indicating the driver has not passed Windows logo testing.)

5. Click "Continue Anyway" to proceed with the installation.

6. When the dialog appears, click "Finish" to complete the installation.


Operating Precautions:
=======================
1. To print images at A4 size, at least 50MB of unused disk space is required.

2. Depending on the specifications and settings of the PC, sometimes the printer information cannot 
   be displayed on the computer.  In this case, printer errors can be identified using the indicator 
  lamp/s and the LCD panel display on the printer.

3. If the time-out setting in the "Printer Properties" window is set to a short time period, an 
   error may be displayed on the computer.  In this case, set a longer time-out period.

4. When printing from a PC, the printers input selector must be set to the appropriate interface, 
   "Parallel" or "USB".  Do not change this setting while printing from a PC.

5. If printing is canceled during the print process, the "Printing" LED on the printer may continue 
   to blink. In this case, turn the printer OFF and then ON again.

6. If the printer is turned OFF or if the cable is unplugged during printing, the print data may 
   remain in the print spooler.  Be sure to delete any remaining print data before printing another 
   image.  The print spooler can be opened by clicking the printer icon on the task bar in the lower 
   right-hand corner of your computer screen.

7. Printing will not begin if "Please Wait" is displayed on the printer's LCD panel.  Printing will 
   start automatically once the message disappears.


Notes for USB Printing:
========================
1. For maximum performance, please enable "Bi-directional" communication. To enable bi-directional 
   communication:

  a. From the desktop, select "Start > Settings > Control Panel" and then open the Printers icon.
    (For Windows XP select "Start > Control Panel > Printer and Fax")
  b. Click the "OLYMPUS P-400" icon to select it, and then right-click it and select "Properties".
  c. Click the "Ports" tab and make sure the "Enable bi-directional support for this printer" box 
     is checked and click "OK".

Notes for parallel Printing:
=============================
1. When printing is canceled in the middle of processing, printing will not terminate until data 
   transfer of the color is complete.  Turning OFF the printer can speed up this process.

2. If printing does not begin after a print is initiated, disable "bi-directional" communication.
   To disable bi-directional communication:

   a. From the desktop, select "Start > Settings > Control Panel" and then open the Printers icon.
     (For Windows XP select "Start > Control Panel > Printer and Fax")
   b. Click the "OLYMPUS P-400" icon to select it, and then right-click it and select "Properties". 
   c. Click the "Ports" tab and make sure the "Enable bi-directional support for this printer" box 
      is NOT checked and click "OK".

3. When performing multi-copy printing on PC's that do not support bi-directional communication, 
   the hard disk should enough free space required by all print copies. (For example, when printing 
   10 A4-size copies of an image, about 250MB of unused disk space is required.)

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
