1.0 Overview

1.1 This README file contains instructions for
installing the "IBM Active PCI Software" which
consists of the following files:
o ibmhpd.inf - installation file for IBM
Active PCI Software.
o ibmhpf.sys - Active PCI Filter Driver.
o ibmhpa.sys - Active PCI Alert Driver.
o ibmhpasv.exe - Active PCI Alert Service.
o ibmhpale.dll - Active PCI Device coinstaller.
o ibmhpaxp.dll - Active PCI Device coinstaller.
1.2 What is IBM Active PCI Software?
The IBM Active PCI Software provides a PCI/PCI-X
Hot Plug solution on Windows 2000.
The IBM Active PCI Software comprises of the
Active PCI Filter Driver, the Active PCI Alert
Driver, and the Active PCI Alert Service.
1.3 The IBM Active PCI Software provides:
o PCI configuration initialization of the Hot
Added adapter
o PCI-X bus speed mismatch warning
o Power Fault warning
o Log failure to the system events

3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions

3.1 Installing the IBM Active PCI Software
You must install the latest BIOS available from
the web before installing the IBM Active PCI
Software. You can download these products from
the Web Site listed in the configuration
information section below.
1. Install the latest BIOS on the system.
2. Download the IBM Active PCI Software file
from the IBM Support web page and extract
the files onto a diskette.
3. Insert the diskette into the floppy drive.
4. Select the "Hardware Wizard" from the System
Properties window or select "Add/Remove
Hardware" from the Control Panel.
5. Select "Next"
6. Select "Add/Troubleshoot a device" and then
"Next".
7. Select the "Unknown" device and then "Next".
DO NOT SELECT Add a new device.
8. Select "Finish".
9. Follow the instructions on the "Upgrade
Device Driver Wizard" until the program is
installed. (Make sure to select "search for
a suitable device driver" when prompted)
The IBM Active PCI Software will be installed
and started.
A reboot will be required to configure the
Active PCI Filter Driver.
3.2 Updating the IBM Active PCI Software
If you have an older version of Active PCI
Software, start the "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard".
1. Install the latest BIOS on the system.
2. Download the IBM Active PCI Software file
from the IBM Support web page and extract
the files onto a diskette.
3. Insert the diskette into the floppy drive.
4. Open the Device Manager and find the older IBM
Active PCI device under the "System devices"
class.
5. Open properties and select the "Drivers" tab.
6. Select "Update Driver...". The Upgrade Device
Driver Wizard appears.
7. Select "Next".
8. Select "Display a list of the known drivers
for this device so that I can choose a specific
driver", and select "Next".
9. Select "Have a disk".
10. Select "IBM Active PCI Device" and "Next".
11. Follow the instructions on the "Upgrade
Device Driver Wizard" until the program is
installed. (Make sure to select "search for
a suitable device driver" when prompted)
The IBM Active PCI Software will be updated
and started.
A reboot will be required to configure the
Active PCI Filter Driver.
4.0 Configuration Information

4.1 Systems Requirements
You can obtain a list of the supported IBM
servers and BIOS levels from the following

4.2 Software Requirements
o Microsoft Windows 2000
o IBM Active PCI Software which

5.0 System Specific Information
---------------------------------
5.1 IBM eServer xSeries 360
The Hotplug controller in the system is a PCI
device that may appear as "PCI Device" under
"Other devices" class in the Device Manager.
If you find the unknown "PCI Device" at
"Location: PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0",
follow the instructions to install the driver.
1. Insert the diskette into the floppy drive.
2. Select the "Hardware Wizard" from the System
Properties window or select "Add/Remove
Hardware" from the Control Panel.
3. Select "Next"
4. Select "Add/Troubleshoot a device" and then
"Next".
5. Select "PCI Device" and then "Next".
DO NOT SELECT Add a new device.
6. Select "Finish".
7. Follow the instructions on the "Upgrade
Device Driver Wizard" until the program is
installed. (Make sure to select "search for
a suitable device driver" when prompted)
The PCI device will appear as "IBM eServer
xSeries 360 PCI-X Hotplug Controller" under the
"System devices" class in Device Manager.
5.2 IBM RXE-100 Remote Expansion Enclusure
The first time an RXE-100 is attached to your
system, the Active PCI Software will reconfigure
the Active PCI Filter Driver for the RXE-100.
A reboot will be required.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
