DVINCI ON WINDOWS 2000. INSTALLATION NOTES AND KNOWN PROBLEMS.

_Description_

This release is in two parts. The driver's directory contains all the device
drivers necessary for DVinci on Windows 2000. These drivers should be installed
first (see 'Driver installation notes'). The other part is a Setup program
which will install the DVinci sample app and the SDK (which includes a
programming example demonstrating the capabilities of DVinci when used with
Microsoft DirectDraw).

_Driver installation notes_

If this is a fresh installation of DVinci for Windows 2000 1.0.0.0 refer to A).
If installing DVinci for Windows 2000 1.0.0.0 over an existing installation of
DVinci for Windows 2000 (i.e. Beta 0.2.0.0) refer to B). If considering
installing DVinci for Windows 2000 1.0.0.0 with DVinci Release 1.6 on Windows
2000 refer to C).

A) _Fresh installation_

If this is a fresh installation of DVinci on Windows 2000 it is likely that the
first time a DVinci card is instered into the system that Windows 2000 will
detect the devices in the following order

1. Enseo DVinci Multimedia Bridge (Philips SAA7146 Multimedia Bridge) (DV7146.inf)
2. Enseo DVinci Graphics Processor (Verite V2200) (DVVerite.inf)
3. Enseo DVinci Graphics Processor (Verite V2200) (DVVerite.inf)
4. Enseo DVinci Video and Graphics Mixer (Intel i960 I/O Processor) (DVi960.inf)

Windows 2000 will invoke the hardware installation wizard for each of these
devices in turn. Follow these steps to install the first device

a) Select 'Search for a suitable driver for my device'.

b) Check 'Specify a location'.

c) Click on 'Browse...' and point to the directory containing the DVinci
.inf files. (The install wizard should select DVi960.inf.)

driver is unsigned. In answer to the question 'Do you wish to
continue the installation?' click on 'Yes'.

e) The wizard should report that this installation step has completed
   successfully. Click on 'Finish'.

f) If Windows 2000 prompts for a reboot, click No. A reboot should be performed
when all four drivers have been instqalled.)

Follow the same steps for the second (DVVerite.inf), third (DVVerite.inf) and
fourth (DVi960.inf) devices found. It is not necessary to restart the computer
between installation steps however it is necessary to restart once all have been
installed.

Follow the same steps without intervening reboot if multiple DVinci cards are
being installed at the same time.

B) _Installation over previous installation of DVinci on Windows 2000_

If a previous version of DVinci for Windows 2000 is installed on the system

f) Click on 'Have Disk...' followed by 'Browse...' and point to the directory

continue the installation?' click on 'Yes'.

latter two can be found under 'Sound, video and game controllers'.

C) _Installation with DVinci Release 1.6 on Windows 2000_

It is not recomended that both DVinci Release 1.6 and DVinci 1.0.0.0 for Windows
2000 be installed together. Unistall DVinci Release 1.6 before attempting to
install DVinci for Windows 2000 1.0.0.0.

_Application Installation_

Once the drivers are installed (and a reboot has occured) the sample
application, user-level DLLs and SDK can be installed. Double-click on Setup.

_DVinci on Windows 2000 1.0.0.0 - Addtional Notes_

DVinci's twin graphics processors are presented to Windows 2000 as standard
video display adapters. The Windows 2000 Device Manager will list them under
'Display adapters' by the name "Enseo DVinci Graphics Processor" and the
'Display Properties' page will also show them under the 'Settings' tab and will
indicate that the Windows desktop is not extended onto them. Although it might
appear that the Windows desktop could be extended onto the devices, this is not
so. The Windows Graphics Drawing Interface (GDI) capabilities have been
disabled on the DVinci graphics adapters (when the source or destination of the
drawing operation is the screen) and so Windows cannot draw the desktop. Using
the 'Display Properties' settings page it is possible to view the display modes
supported by the processors. Both show that they support 720x480 at 60Hz for
NTSC and 720x576 at 50Hz for PAL. The RGB processor's display modes are 32 bit
and the YUV processor's display modes are 16 bit. The 'Display Properties'
settings page can also be used to change the modes but this again is
unnecessary. Generally, programs which use DVinci will set the display mode by
using the DirectDraw API (see the SDK programming example).

_Limitations and Known Problems_

DVinci 2000 supports DirectDraw but not the DirectDraw Emulation interface used
under NT4. All other COM interfaces supported by the NT4 product are supported
on Windows 2000.

_Sample application limitations and known problems_

Occasionally, and often the first time a card is used after it has been
installed, the % usage will be report a very large value for the YUV processor.
(This often happens if the card takes a long time to initialize.) Exit the
sample application and restart it if this occurs. If it happens again, reboot
and try again.

Occasionally a card will not initialize. Reboot and try again.

The sample app does not move the timebar up and down with the vertical scrolling
overlay.

Sometimes a line of pixels from the horizonally scrolling overlay is
visible above the timebar.

The sample app is known to lock up on rare occasions.

The 'Chroma keying' feature is not implemented for the title overlay. The
corresponding checkbox has been disabled.

The sample app is a full-screen exclusive mode DirectDraw application.
Switching the application focus away from the sample app whilst it is running
will cause it to stop working. For this reason the sample app takes control of
the entire screen. It is suggested that the task bar 'Always on top' property
be unchecked to reduce the risk of switching focus away from the sample app.
