README.TXT Driver File Contents (30iifr.zip)

This directory contains four files that implement the SMC prototype driver
for Infrared communication as described by IrDA, two INF scripts for
installing the drivers in the Windows 95 system.

        SmcSer.Vxd -- port driver for SMC IrCC
        SmcSer.Inf -- installer for the port driver
        SmcIrlap.Vxd -- Infrared Framer for fast speed SMC IrCC
        SmcIrlap.Inf -- installer for the framer

PROCEDURE:
----------
1. Press F2 enter BIOS Setup Menu click on System Devices.  
   Enable Infrared Port and set "FIR" for the Mode.
   The Base I/O address recommand choose is COM2 IRQ3 DMA 3.
2. There is a "Unknow Device" found after boot to win95 OSR2.
3. Put the fir driver diskette into FDD.  The device name is
   "SMC IrCC (Fast Infrared) Hardware and Driver (COM2).
4. Install Microsoft IRDA 2.0 from "Add New Hardware" under Control Panel.
5. Following the screen instruction to finish IRDA 2.0 setup.
   Choose "SMC IrCC (Fast Infrared) Hardware and Driver (COM2).
6. Insert this diskette and use mouse right button click on "SMCIrlap.inf" file
   and choose install.  Put the fir driver diskette into FDD.
7. Reboot the system. 
8. You can using Direct-Cable for file transfer.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
