Thank you for purchasing this Image Memory Card Reader SM-R2.
This document describes how to use your SM-R2.

Required Hardware and Software
-	Compatible Computers
IBM PC/AT compatibles
* This product requires PC with factory installed USB port.
* Consult your personal computer manufacturer for information on whether your
personal computer supports the USB interface.
* This software only runs on personal computers with Microsoft Windows(R)98
installed.
-	Operating System
Microsoft Windows(R)98, Windows(R)98SE
* This software will not run on Microsoft Windows(R)95. Operation on Microsoft
Windows(R)95 OSR 2.1 is also not supported.
-	CPU
Pentium or better
* No assurance whatsoever is given regarding the operation of this software if
it is used on systems other than those described above, on self-built systems,
or on modified personal computers.

If you are using this product on a notebook personal computer with a USB hub, an AC adapter should be connected to the USB hub.

Before removing the SmartMedia card, open "My Computer" and right-click on
the "Removable disk" icon and select "EJECT" menu.
Confirm that the "READY lamp" is off, and then press the "EJECT button".
Pull off the card, as it is, with your hand.
Compatible SmartMedia
Operation of this software is only guaranteed when it is used with Fujifilm
SmartMedia.
Voltage
-	5V: 2MB or 4MB
-	3.3V: 2MB, 4MB, 8MB, 16MB, 32MB or 64MB
* The SM-R2 does not accept 64MB SmartMdia which was formatted with the MX-700,
MX-500 or DX-8.

SmartMedia Write Protection
The data on a SmartMedia card can be protected against accidental replacement
or deletion by affixing a write-protect sticker on the SmartMedia. To replace
or delete data on the SmartMedia card, simply peel off the sticker.
Used stickers should not be reused.

Formatting SmartMedia
If you use this product to format a SmartMedia card on your personal computer,
you may not be able to use the SmartMedia with some digital cameras. If this 
occurs, reformat the SmartMedia card on the digital camera. Refer to the manual
provided with your digital camera for details.

<<Setup Procedure>>
Setup (Installing the Driver Software)
(1)Turn on the personal computer on and start Windows98.
(2)Insert the set up disk(CD-ROM) into the CD-ROM drive.
(3)Connect the SM-R2 to the USB port on your personal computer or the USB hub.
(4)The "Add New Hardware Wizard" window is displayed. Install the software as
directed by the instructions on the screen. Refer to the Owner's Manual for
details.
(5)Once setup is completed, the SM-R2 will be recognized automatically when you
connect the USB cable.

<<Notes on Using the SM-R2>>
When inserting the SmartMedia card, refer to P.6 of the Owner's Manual.

Never switch off your personal computer or touch the Eject button while the
SmartMedia card is being accessed. This could corrupt the data on the SmartMedia@card.

To guard against faults and the corruption or loss of the data stored on your
SmartMedia card, always back up your data onto another storage medium. Fujifilm
accepts no responsibility whatsoever for the loss of data saved on other storage media.

Before removing the SmartMedia card, open "My Computer" and right-click on
the "Removable disk" icon and select "EJECT" menu.
Confirm that the "READY lamp" is off, and then press the "EJECT button".
Pull off the card, as it is, with your hand.
To avoid data loss, check that the SmartMedia card contains no important data
(files) before initializing it. Fujifilm accepts no responsibility whatsoever
for the loss of erased data.

Take care to ensure that no dust or foreign objects get into the SmartMedia
slot as this can cause faults or malfunctions.

Do not directly touch the USB connector terminals with your hands as this
could cause faults in the SM-R2 or in your personal computer.

When disconnecting the USB cable, disconnect the SM-R2 end before
disconnecting the personal computer end.
When disconnecting USB cable, pull the connector out by gripping both sides of
the connector with your fingers.

Use only the USB cable provided. The use of other cables will cause
malfunctions.

Do not place heavy objects on this product when using or storing it as this
can damage the product and cause faults.

Do not use volatile organic solvents, or chemically treated cloths to clean
this product. This can damage the casing of the product and cause faults.
To clean the SM-R2, wipe it with a clean dry cloth. If the SM-R2 will not be
used for an extended period, disconnect the USB cable, remove the SmartMedia
and store the SM-R2 in a dry, dust-free location.

<<Reproduction of this Software>>
The reproduction or transfer of this software via other networks, etc. for
business purposes and without the consent of both Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. and
Iomega Corporation is forbidden. It is also forbidden to reverse engineer or
modify these files, or use these files for purposes other than those intended

Required Hardware and Software
-	Compatible Computers
Apple iMac and models that support USB as standard
* This product runs on computers that support the USB interface as a standard 
feature.
-	Compatible Operating Systems
Mac OS 8.1 to 9.0
* For Mac OS 8.1, "iMac Update 1.0" is required. "iMac Update 1.0" is provided 
on the enclosed CD-ROM. For Mac OS 9.0, install the driver software only.
-	CPU
Power PC G3/G4
* No assurance whatsoever is given regarding the operation of this software if 
it is used on systems other than those described above or on self-built systems.
Install the driver software before connecting this product to your system.

Before removing the SmartMedia card, drag the SmartMedia icon to the Trash or
pull down "Special" menu in the menu bar at the top of the screen and select
"Eject". Confirm that the "READY lamp" is off, then press the "EJECT button"
and remove the Smartmedia card. 

Compatible SmartMedia
Operation of this software is only guaranteed when it is used with Fujifilm
SmartMedia.

PC Exchange and File Exchange
To use MS-DOS-format or Windows-format SmartMedia card, "PC Exchange" or 
"File Exchange" supplied with the Mac OS is necessary. Check if PC Exchange or
File Exchange is installed in control panel in the system folder.
For the detail of "PC Exchange" and "File Exchange", refer to "Mac OS HELP" or
"Mac OS Information Center."
* PC Exchange is supplied with Mac OS 8.1 and File Exchange is provided with
MacOS 8.5/8.6/9.0.

<<Setup Procedure>>
Before Setup
Before Setup, check the OS version.
When using Mac OS 8.1 with an iMac, install "iMac Update 1.0" before installing
The driver software. When using Mac OS 8.5/8.6/9.0, install the driver software 
only.

"iMac Update 1.0" installation 
"iMac Update 1.0"is a software improved by Apple Computer, Inc. to allow use of
USB devices on the iMac. Since this software is necessary to use the SM-R2,
always install the update.
"iMac Update 1.0" is provided in the iMac Update folder on the enclosed CD-ROM.
Read "About iMac Update 1.0" for more information on how to install the update.

Setup (Installing the Driver Software)
(1)Turn on the personal computer power.
(2)Install the Setup disk(CD-ROM) into the CD-ROM drive.
(3)Double-click on the "CD-ROM" icon on the desktop.
(4)Double-click on the "USB SmartMediaRWInstall". Installation progresses in
accordance with messages.
(5)Restart the personal computer.
(6)After restarting, connect the SM-R2 to the personal computer and the USB port of the USB hub.
* Refer to the enclosed Owner's Manual for information on connecting the SM-R2.

<<Notes on Using the SM-R2>>
When inserting the SmartMedia card, refer to P.6 of the Owner's Manual.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
