MicroTouch TouchWare for Microsoft Windows Version 5.62, April 2001 Copyright 1991-2001 3M Touch Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. ____________________________________________ PRODUCT SUMMARY --------------------------------- TouchWare for Windows is the software for your MicroTouch touchscreen. It allows users to select, launch, and drag objects using the touchscreen. TouchWare provides full touchscreen functionality for all applications running under Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, and Windows 9X. It uses a true 32-bit implementation of the driver and control panel to implement touchscreen support. ENHANCEMENTS --------------------------- KNOWN ANOMALIES -------------------------------- * The keyboard type for Japanese Windows NT systems using PS/2 controllers may be reported as an unknown MtsI8042.sys type. To correct this, use the Control Panel to select the proper keyboard type. Then uninstall TouchWare, reboot, and reinstall TouchWare. The keyboard type should remain whatever you previously selected. * Occasionally on Windows 98 and Me, the USB installation will not work until after a reboot. * Prior to attaching a USB controller, the TouchWare USB software needs to be installed. Occasionally, under Windows 2000, even after the USB software is installed, insertion of the USB controller may fail to load the driver. If this happens, go to the Control Panel, double-click on the "System" icon, go to the "Hardware" tab, and press the "Device Manager" button. Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" section and select the "MicroTouch Touchscreen" entry, which should have a yellow warning indicator over its icon. From the "Action" menu, issue the "Uninstall" command. Unplug and replug the controller and the driver will be found. * The stabilize cursor feature has been disabled for Windows 2000 PS/2 TouchWare. To stabilizing jittery cursors, right click on your desktop and select properties. Go to the "Settings" tab. Click on the "Advanced" button and select the "Adapter" tab. On this page, look for a button or list box that lists the different monitor frequencies. Do a trial and error test by selecting different frequencies until you find one that does not interfere with the cursor. * TouchWare does not support the "hibernation" shut down mode in Windows 2000. * For installation of the PS/2 TouchWare software under Windows 2000, the PS/2 touchscreen controller must be connected to the system before it is booted. * If you are installing a PS/2 controller under Windows 9x or NT, you must uninstall any previous TouchWare version as well as disconnect and disable any existing PS/2 mouse drivers/hardware prior to installing the new version of TouchWare. Verify that IRQ 12 is not being used by the system. Even if the mouse hardware is disconnected, the system can still claim the IRQ. Note: Some styles of laptop mice cannot be physically removed. However, they can usually be disabled. * TouchWare does not always recognize PS/2 MicroTouch controllers. When this happens, the MicroTouch PS/2 driver disables the keyboard. You must uninstall TouchWare to regain the keyboard. This appears to happen on some PC's due to BIOS incompatibilities. You should keep a serial mouse attached to the system during installation so you can use the system if the keyboard becomes disabled. * In planning to use a touchscreen under Windows 9x without a mouse or keyboard installed, you must first remove the mouse and reboot. Then, using the keyboard, you can disable the Windows dialog warning "Mouse not found". Finally, remove the keyboard and reboot the system. * If you attempt to attach an additional USB device to your system after installing TouchWare, you may lose touch functionality during installation of that device. You should keep a keyboard or mouse attached to the system during USB device installation. * If you uninstall TouchWare, you should restart the system before installing a new version of the software. * TouchWare does not support the custom directory option for serial multiple touchscreen configurations. * The setup program does not remove the DOSTOUCH program from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file during a Windows 95 upgrade installation. * The setup program will only look for the default directories for previous TouchWare versions on the target system when doing a Windows 95 upgrade installation. * Some older video cards may cause conflicts with COM 4. Refer to Article ID: Q127138 in the Microsoft Technical Support Knowledge base for further information. * If you are using a ThruGlass controller, you may have difficulty making selections at the top or bottom of the screen. To correct the problem, select ThruGlass Configuration -> Diagnostics -> Auto Frequency. HARDWARE SUPPORT ------------------------------------ This version of TouchWare supports multiple monitor configurations for serial and USB systems. However, TouchWare does not support the use of multiheaded video cards. TouchWare requires a separate video card for each monitor. The hardware listed below has been tested as of this release.
