Apricorn's EZ-GIG Driver for Windows 9.x and NT 

=======================
What This Diskette Does
=======================

This diskette provides the appropriate Drivers for the Windows 9.x &
NT environment.

The procedure you use to install the EZ-GIG External Drive to your
computer varies depending upon which model of computer you have and
which operating system you are using. Skip down to the appropriate
section below for instructions for your computer operating system.

	NOTE: There are 3 versions of Windows '95 available,
	the original Windows '95, Windows '95 with Service
	Pack 1 (Win95A), and the OSR2 version of Windows '95
	(Win95B). To find out which version you have, click
	on the Start Menu, then Settings, then Control Panel.
	Open the System Control Panel; look at the line under
	Microsoft Windows 95 on the right side of the window.
	It will say 4.00.950 for Win95, 4.00.950A for Win95A,
	or 4.00.950B for Win95B.

	NOTE: The same procedures will also work if you have
	a PCMCIA Controller installed on your desktop system.

First Time Driver Installation Procedures:
==========================================


>>> Windows '95/95A First Time Installation:

1. Start Win95
2. Insert the EZ-GIG PC Card into an empty PCMCIA slot.
3. Windows should recognize the insertion and respond with a New
Hardware window.
4. Select the "Driver From Disk Provided By Manufacturer" click "OK".
5. Select "Browse", click A:\win9x and click "OK", click "OK" to
complete with installation.
6. The system will ask you to re-boot. Remove the floppy diskette
and reboot.
7. Upon re-booting, Open "Control Panel", double click on "System",
and select the "Device Manager" tab.
8. Select "Disk Drives" to display all drives connected.
9. The external drive should be listed by mfg. and model number.
Select it and click on "Properties", and select the "Settings" tab.
10. Check "INT 13 Unit" and click "OK".
11. Restart your computer. If the hard drive is not formatted, upon
reboot, you should see a new drive listed in My Computer. Right click
on the new drive and choose "Format".


>>> Windows '95B First Time Installation:

1. Start Win95
2. Insert the EZ-GIG PC Card into an empty PCMCIA slot.
3. Windows should recognize the insertion and respond with a New
Hardware window.
4. A message will be displayed "Update Device Driver wizard" click "next".
5. The next window will be asking you to choose between the standard
"IDE/ESDI" driver and one that is provided on a floppy disk. Insert
the EZ-GIG software diskette and click "Other Locations" and then click
on "Browse" to find the driver. Select A:\Win9x and click "OK" and then
click "OK" again and click on "Finish".
6. An error message will appear to insert the driver diskette. Click "OK".
7. Click on Browse and type a:\win9x and click "OK" and click "OK"
again to complete the installation of the custom driver. Remove the
diskette from the floppy.
7. The system will ask you to re-boot. Remove the floppy diskette and
reboot.
9. Upon re-booting, Open "Control Panel", double click on "System", and
select the "Device Manager" tab.
10. Select "Disk Drives" to display all drives connected.
11. The external drive should be listed by mfg. and model number. Select
it and click on "Properties", and select the "Settings" tab.
12. Check "INT 13 Unit" and click "OK".
13. Restart your computer. If the hard drive is not formatted, upon reboot,
you should see a new drive listed in My Computer. Right click on the new
drive and choose "Format".


>>> Windows '98 First Time Installation:

1. Start Win98
2. Insert the EZ-GIG PC Card into an empty PCMCIA slot.
3. Windows should recognize the insertion and respond with a New Hardware
window.
4. A message window is displayed "Add New Hardware Wizard" click "Next".
5. The next window will be asking you to choose between the best driver or
display a list of drivers. Choose "Search for Best Driver" and click "Next".
6. Make sure both the "Floppy Disk" and "Specify Location" is checked and
insert EZ-GIG software diskette and click on "Browse". Select A:\Win9x and
click "OK", click "Next" and click "Next".
7. Here it will list the Apricorn ATA PC Card. Click "Next" to complete the
installation of the driver. Remove the software diskette from floppy.
8. The system will ask you to re-boot. Remove the floppy diskette and reboot.
9. Upon re-booting, Open "Control Panel", double click on "System", and
select the "Device Manager" tab.
10. Select "Disk Drives" to display all drives connected.
11. The external drive should be listed by mfg. and model number. Select
it and click on "Properties", and select the "Settings" tab.
12. Check "INT 13 Unit" and click "OK".
13. Restart your computer. If the hard drive is not formatted, upon reboot,
you should see a new drive listed in My Computer. Right click on the new
drive and choose "Format".


>>> Windows NT Version 4.0 First Time Installation:

1. Start WinNT
2. Click on "Start" menu.
3. Select Settings and click "Control Panel".
4. Double click on "SCSI Adapter" and select the "Drivers" tab.
5. Click on "ADD..." click on "Have Disk", click on "Browse" and select
A:\NT and click "Open", click "OK".
6. The Apricorn ATA PC Card should appear. Click "OK".
7. Type A:\NT and click "continue" and the installation will be complete.
8. Remove the software diskette from floppy and power down the notebook. 
9. Insert the EZ-GIG PC Card and reboot the notebook.
10. The system will ask you to re-boot. Remove the floppy diskette and
reboot.
11. Select Settings and click "Control Panel".
12. Double click on "SCSI Adapter" and select the "Drivers" tab.
13. The external drive should be listed and started.
14. If the hard disk is blank, use Disk Administrator to format and partition the hard disk.

Updating Driver Installation Procedures:
========================================


>>> Windows 95A Updating Driver:

1. Remove the EZ-GIG from the PCMCIA slot and then boot to Windows.
2. Click on "Start" menu.
3. Select Settings and click "Control Panel".
4. Double click on the "System" and select "Device Manager" tab.
5. Double click on the "Hard Disk Controller" item. 
6. Insert the EZ-GIG PCMCIA card and watch for the new entry in the list.
Select this new entry, it will either be "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk
Controller" (go to step 7) or "ATA_PC_Card" (go to step 11).
7. Click "Remove" and then click "Refresh".
8. Windows should recognize the insertion and respond with a New Hardware
window.
9. Select the "Driver From Disk Provided By Manufacturer" click "OK".
10. Select "Browse", click A:\win9x and click "OK", click "OK"
(Go to step 19).

11. If you selected ATA_PC_Card, click "Remove". Remove the EZ-GIG from
the PCMCIA slot.
12. Click on "Start" menu, and select "Find" and click on
"Files and Folders". 
13. Click on the "Browse" button and select C:\Windows\INF
14. Select the "Advanced" tab, and under the "Containing Text" box type
in ATA_PC_CARD and click on "Find Now".
15. A file called "Saprb65b.inf" should appear. Select and delete this file.
16. Insert the EZ-GIG PC Card in the PCMCIA slot. Windows should recognize
the insertion and respond with a New Hardware window.
17. Select the "Driver From Disk Provided By Manufacturer" click "OK".
18. Select "Browse", click A:\win9x and click "OK", click "OK" to complete
with installation.
19. The system will ask you to re-boot. Remove the floppy diskette and
reboot.
20. Upon re-booting, Open "Control Panel", double click on "System", and
select the "Device Manager" tab.
21. Select "Disk Drives" to display all drives connected.
22. The external drive should be listed by mfg. and model number. Select
it and click on "Properties", and select the "Settings" tab.
23. Check "INT 13 Unit" and click "OK".
24. Restart your computer. If the hard drive is not formatted, upon reboot,
you should see a new drive listed in My Computer. Right click on the new
drive and choose "Format".


>>> Windows 95B Updating Driver:

1. Remove the EZ-GIG from the PCMCIA slot and then boot to Windows.
2. Click on "Start" menu.
3. Select Settings and click "Control Panel".
4. Double click on the "System" and select "Device Manager" tab.
5. Double click on the "Hard Disk Controller" item.
6. Insert the EZ-GIG PCMCIA card and watch for the new entry in the list.
Select this new entry, either "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller" or
"ATA_PC_Card" and click on "Properties" button.
7. Click the "Driver" tab, click the "Update Driver" button. Then click
"Next" and insert the software diskette containing the new drivers into
the floppy drive.
8. Click on the "Other Locations", click "Browse" and select A:\Win9x and
click "OK" and then click "Finish"
9. The system will ask you to re-boot. Remove the floppy diskette and reboot.
10. Upon re-booting, Open "Control Panel", double click on "System", and
select the "Device Manager" tab.
11. Select "Disk Drives" to display all drives connected.
12. The external drive should be listed by mfg. and model number. Select
it and click on "Properties", and select the "Settings" tab.
13. Check "INT 13 Unit" and click "OK".
14. Restart your computer. If the hard drive is not formatted, upon reboot,
you should see a new drive listed in My Computer. Right click on the new
drive and choose "Format".


>>> Windows 98 Updating Driver:

1. Remove the EZ-GIG from the PCMCIA slot and then boot to Windows.
2. Click on "Start" menu.
3. Select Settings and click "Control Panel".
4. Double click on the "System" and select "Device Manager" tab.
5. Double click on the "Hard Disk Controller" item.
6. Insert the EZ-GIG PCMCIA card and watch for the new entry in the list.
Select this new entry, either "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller" or
"ATA_PC_Card" and click on "Properties" button.
7. Click the "Driver" tab, click the "Update Driver" button.
8. A message window is displayed "Add New Hardware Wizard" click "Next".
9. The next window will be asking you to choose between the best driver or
display a list of drivers.
Choose "Search for Best Driver" and click "Next".
10. Make sure both the Floppy disk and Specify Location is checked and
insert EZ-GIG software diskette and click on "Browse". Select A:\Win9x
and click "OK", click "Next" and click "Next".
11. Here it will list the Apricorn ATA PC Card. Click "Next" and Click
"Finish" to complete the installation of the driver. Remove the software
diskette from floppy.
12. The system will ask you to re-boot. Remove the floppy diskette and
reboot.
13. Upon re-booting, Open "Control Panel", double click on "System", and
select the "Device Manager" tab.
14. Select "Disk Drives" to display all drives connected.
15. The external drive should be listed by mfg. and model number. Select
it and click on "Properties", and select the "Settings" tab.
16. Check "INT 13 Unit" and click "OK".
17. Restart your computer. If the hard drive is not formatted, upon reboot,
you should see a new drive listed in My Computer. Right click on the new
drive and choose "Format".

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
