1.0 WHAT'S NEW IN SOCKETSCAN RELEASE 3.3
This version of SocketScan CD ROM v3.3 provides support for all of
Socket's Scanning Peripherals on the following operating systems:
Windows CE v2.11 or higher, Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me and NT.
This release contains the following enhancements:
1.1 Includes minor bug fixes discovered since the last release.
1.2 Includes new applications for the In-Hand Scan Card when used
in Windows CE devices. These enhancements are described in the
ReadMe file located in the SocketScanCE directory of this CD and
also in the In-Hand Scan Card User Guide.
2.0 OUTSTANDING ISSUES
URGENT: When loading SocketScan, any previous version of
SocketScan must first be completely uninstalled. Because of a
change in Socket naming conventions, the new version will not
replace the older version and a second SocketScan directory will
be created. For Windows CE devices, please refer to the README
file in the SocketScan CE installation directory for detailed
uninstall directions.
URGENT: This software must be installed directly from this CD.
When launching the CD and installing the software in Internet
Explorer, a "File Download" window appears with the options to
either "Run this program from it's current location" or "Save
this program to disk". You must choose to "Run this program from
it's current location". When the Security Warning screen appears,
click Yes to continue.
Because Netscape does not offer the option of running the program
from the CD, Netscape cannot be used to install this software. If
Netscape is set as the default browser on your system, open
the Internet Explorer that came with your Windows operating
system, click on File, then Open, browse to the CD and open
setup.htm.
When using SocketScan under Windows 95, the application that is
using the scanned information must be launched AFTER the scanning
peripheral is installed in the computer to ensure reliable
operation. The issue is caused by some limitations of Windows 95.
The In-Hand Scan Card is not supported under Windows NT 4.0 at
this time. In some Windows NT 4.0 machines, SocketScan software
might not work correctly when PCMCIA or CF Ethernet cards are
installed. Please call Technical Support or visit Socket's web
site at www.socketcom.com for an update on this issue.
