1.0 WHAT'S NEW IN RELEASE 104B
Release 104B
This release included a change to the Windows CE driver only.

Release 4.0
This release incorporates all the software onto one CD. The
software is updated to support the tuples of the latest hardware.
In addition, standard Microsoft driver files (serial.vxd) are now
used.

Previous Versions:
Release 3.50
This release separates the software onto two disks; one for Windows
9X/NT and DOS drivers and one for Windows CE.

Release 3.40
This release corrected a minor typo in a dialog box.

Release 3.20
This release fixes a known problem with Windows NT 4.0. Included is
a new Dual Serial Control Panel applet that will run under Windows
9x and NT 4.0. This product requires third party Card & Socket
Services in order to function under Windows NT 4.0. Softex and
Phoenix both make such a product and both have been tested with the
D-I/O.

You can download a version of Phoenix Card Executive for Windows NT
4.0 from www.socketcom.com/sftxfin.exe or by contacting Socket's
technical support group at techsupport@socketcom.com.

The logging capability available in the previous driver has been
removed since it is no longer necessary.

Release 3.11
This release adds an enhanced Windows NT 4.0 driver, plus a logging
capability in the NT driver. The Control Panel applet has been
updated to allow turning on or off the event logging. In some
cases, there has been an unidentified problem with the dualio.sys
correctly enabling the card under Windows NT 4.0. If the problem
exits, an error message will appear in the Control Panel applet
that says, "Cannot Detect Com Ports". There is currently no
workaround available for the problem.

Release 3.00
This release includes the addition of DOS Direct Enablers.

Release 2.01
This release corrected a problem where the Dual I/O could not be
configured by Windows NT 4.0 on some notebooks. The file
DUALIO.SYS was updated.

Release 2.00
This release included a driver for Windows NT 4.0, and fixed the
problem of using COM 5 on Windows 95. There was a new option in
the Control Panel applet which can indicate advanced configuration
information.

3.0 RELEASE NOTES

This README.TXT file applies to the Dual Serial I/O Installation
Disc v4.0.

3.1 Other known issues:
a) Two Dual I/O Cards will not function simultaneously in the same
   machine under Windows NT 4.0.
b) Socket does not recommend using a serial mouse on either port of
   the Dual I/O Card.
c) Installation of the Dual I/O drivers in Windows NT 4.0 requires
   an administrator login.
d) No COM ports assigned higher than COM 6 are currently supported
   under Windows NT.
e) The System control panel applet displays "Unknown" in the
"Expansion Slot" field when a Dual I/O card prior to version "C"
   is used.
f) If you are running two Dual I/O Serial Cards (Rev. H or higher
for removable cables version and Rev. C or higher for ruggedized
version), there are no port conflicts and the ports are assigned
immediately. There will be a port conflict when using a
combination of an old (rev A and below) and a new (Rev. H or
higher for removable cables version and Rev. C or higher for
ruggedized version) card. This conflict is resolved by rebooting
   the system.

4.0 UNINSTALL PROCEDURES

4.1 Windows 9x Uninstall

DISCLAIMER: In Windows 9x or Windows NT, any time you modify or
delete anything from your system registry, you risk losing
important information. Be sure to back up your current registry
files BEFORE attempting this uninstall. To back up those files:

a) Open a MS-DOS prompt and go to the c:\windows> subdirectory.
b) Type Attrib System.* -h -r -s and hit <enter>
c) Rename system.dat to system.bak
d) Type Attrib System.* +h +r +s and hit <enter>
e) Cold boot your computer by completely shutting it off and then
   turning it back on again.

To uninstall Version 2.00 or later, including the current version,
of the Dual Serial Card software, please follow these steps:

a) Go to Start/Run and type in regedit, then press <enter>. This
will bring up the registry editor. Within the registry editor
you should delete the following keys, if they appear:
b) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/MF/ and check for Child0000 and
Child0001. If Socket's Dual I/O is the only adapter listed under
both, remove the folders completely. If there are other multi-
function adapters listed under each Child folder, simply delete the
keys for only the Socket Dual I/O.
c) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/PCMCIA and delete the lines for
   the Socket Dual I/O Card.
d) Using either a DOS prompt or Windows Explorer, go to
Windows/Inf directory. First delete the drvdata.bin and
drvidx.bin files. You can sort by type to find these easily.
Next, if you have Windows 95 versions 950 or 950A, check the
OEM*.inf files and delete the one(s) that have reference to the
Socket Dual I/O. Or if you have Windows 95 version 950B or
Windows 98, go to Windows/Inf/Other directory and delete
   SocketDualio.INF file.

Note: to determine your version of Windows 95, go to
Start/Settings/Control Panel and double click on System. You
should see under the heading "System" the version of Windows 95
you have. It will either be 4.00.950, 4.00.950A, or 4.00.950B.)

e) Using either a DOS prompt or Windows Explorer, go to
   Windows/System and delete dualio.cpl.
f) Completely cold boot your computer by shutting it off and then
   turning it back on again.
