CD start up program will automatically detect what SOYO motherboard you
own, and accordingly to your board type you will be able to read your
manual or install the appropriate drivers for your motherboard.

Clicking this button will load and display the manual for your
motherboard. The Start-Up menu program has automatically detected what
SOYO board you own and it will display your manual accordingly. The
manual files included on the SOYO CD are all in PDF format. To read a
PDF file, Acrobat Reader will have to be installed on your system. If
the Start-Up menu program finds that you have not installed Acrobat
Reader to your system it will ask you whether or not you want to
install it. You have to install Acrobat Reader if you want to read
the manual files. After installation of Acrobat Reader you will have

you own, the manual selection menu will pop up. Select the manual that
you want to read and click OK.
The manuals can all be found in the following directory:

drivers accordingly. You are advised to only install those drivers.
If you click the button Display all drivers on the SOYO CD all the
available drivers will be displayed. Please take care only to install
the proper drivers to your system. Failing to do so can lead to
problems.

you own, all the drivers available on the SOYO CD will be displayed
by default. Click the button of the driver that you wish to install.
After the installation progam of any of the drivers has started, the
SOYO CD will exit. For most of the drivers you will need to restart
your system before the driver becomes active.

1 - SOUTHBRIDGE ISSUE

Question marks under Windows 95 ?

There is a problem when your motherboard comes with a chipset that
older revisions of windows 95 will not recognize. Among the chipsets
that are too new are the TX, LX, BX and ETEQ chipsets. Windows will
not recognize the PIIX 4/5/6 (also known as the 'south bridge') used
in these chipsets because of the fact that these chipsets were released
after windows, so windows misses the appropriate drivers for those
chipsets. You can check whether or not your version of windows has
this problem by clicking: 'Settings (click start first) - Control Panel
- System'. If you find two question marks on 'USB device' and 'PCI
bridge' then your version of windows will need to be updated. In order
to solve this problem you will need to upgrade the Windows 95 inf file
that keeps information on chipset properties for windows.

ETEQ chipset boards:
Click the ETEQ Southbridge button to solve this problem. This will
install the ACPI drivers to your ETEQ board, and it will in the mean
while update the necessary Windows Inf files as well.

INTEL Chipset boards:
Click the ETEQ Southbridge button to solve this problem. The program
will update the necessary Windows Inf files.

2 - BUSMASTER DRIVERS

The advantage of installing the Bus Master Drivers is that they allow
the CPU to work on a different task while data is transferred between
the HDD and the system Memory (Also known as DMA or Direct Memory
Access). For single-tasking operating systems, Bus Master DMA is not
of much use, therefore there is no need to install these drivers on
DOS, Windows 3.1, and other single-tasking operating systems.

As a reminder, the new Windows95 service release 2 (OSR2) and later
versions (Windows 98) come with a DMA capable driver (ESDI_506.pdr).
The DMA mode can be switched on or off in the drive property screen
under the system manager, so in the next version of windows we will
not need to install any Bus Master Drivers anymore.
It is important that the bus master drivers are not installed twice,
because otherwise your OS may become unstable. Always uninstall the
bus master drivers before you install them again.

Not all chipsets support Bus-mastering. Most new chipsets do:
Intel 430 FX / HX / VX / TX, 440 FX / LX / BX, and ETEQ chipsets.
Boards that have one of these chipsets are capable of transferring
data directly from the HDD to main memory. Installation of the
Busmaster Drivers on boards with older chipsets will be useless.

The SOYO CD provided four kinds of Bus Master Drivers. Click the
proper button from the Install Drivers menu to install them.

-For INTEL chipset boards that use Windows 95
-For INTEL chipset boards that use Windows NT
-For INTEL chipset boards that use OS/2
-For ETEQ chipset boards that use windows 95 or NT

3 - ETEQ AGP CARD DRIVER

(You are advised to print this description for convenience during
installation)

Because AGP is a very new technology, enabling the use of AGP on your
ETEQ chipset motherboard requires you to go through a lot of
complicated steps. All the necessary steps are described below, step
through them one by one, then installing all the necessary drivers
should not be a problem.

Enter the BIOS setup by pressing the <Delete> during boot-up. Go to
the 'Chipset Features Setup' section of the BIOS setup and make sure
that the 'AGP' item there is set to 'enabled'.

(note: there may be a different installation order in the manual that
came with your AGP card. We advise you to follow that order)

Part I : Windows 95
1. For Windows 95 users, it is impossible to make use AGP with a
version of windows lower than OSR2. Users of an older version of
windows should upgrade to OSR2. You can check what version of windows
you have installed by taking the following steps: click 'start',
'settings', 'control panel' and select 'system'. Under the 'General'
tab you will find what version of windows you have installed. If there
is a B or a C at the end of the system description then you have
installed OSR2. Users of Windows 98 (Memphis) can use AGP as well.
2. You will need to install "USBSUPP.EXE" from Microsoft, which
includes the USB supplement and a new memory manager (VMM32.VxD)
needed for the AGP DIME feature. You can find this file on the OSR2 CD
in the directory \OSR2\USBSUPP. For different languages of Windows 95,
there are different kind of USBSUPP.EXE files.
3. Now install the ETEQ AGP Driver by clicking the button in the
Drivers Installation menu of the SOYO CD.
4. Install Direct X5 to your system. This is a set of drivers provided
by Microsoft for free, but you will have to download them from their
Internet Site. Go to the following address to download the drivers:
http://www.microsoft.com/directx/default.asp and download
'DirectX 5.0 for end users'. Restart your system after downloading
and installation. If your card came with Dirext X, please install it
from your card's CD or discs.
5. Install the drivers that came with your AGP card, and after
restarting your system you should be ready to make full use of your
system's AGP port.

Part II : Windows NT
1. For Windows NT users, it is impossible to make full use of the AGP
function with a version of windows lower than V4.0. Users of an older
version of windows should upgrade to V4.0.
2. In addition to installing the ETEQ AGP Driver, you have to install
Microsoft Service Pack 3 for NT4.0.
3. Install the AGP drivers that came with your AGP card, and after
restarting your system you should be ready to make full use of your
system's AGP port.

As for the next releases of the Microsoft Operating Systems, they will
include support for AGP hardware with the windows version code-named
Memphis (windows '98) and Windows NT version 5.0.
