I.  INTRODUCTION

PURPOSE OF THIS README FILE
---------------------------
This ReadMe file provides installation instructions and other "late-breaking"
information you should know before you install and use the Sony USB External
Floppy Disk Drive, Model MPF82E.

COMPATIBLE OPERATING SYSTEMS & SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
--------------------------------------------------
The followings are the minimum requirements to use MPF82E USB external floppy
disk drive.

Windows PC System Requirements
- CPU Pentium Processor or greater
- USB port (using Intel 82371 USB controller)
- CD-ROM Drive or a device which can read CD-ROM disc
- Windows 98 or Windows 2000 Professional or Windows Me Pre-installed PC

Macintosh Computer System Requirements
- Power Mac G4, G4 Cube, iMac, iBook, PowerBook G4
- USB port (using USB connector on Macintosh computer)
- Mac OS 8.6 or 9.0 or 9.1 Pre-installed
  Mac OS 8.6 requires installing the following device driver provided by Apple
Web site.
     Device Driver :   USB Storage Support 1.3.5.smi

Before the installation of the device driver, please quit all application
softwares running on the system.
For the following instruciton, please read the user's manual in the package.

CONNECTION OF THIS PRODUCT
--------------------------
This product is designed to connect system directly.  USB connector of this
product needs to be connected to USB port (connector) on system directly.

DISCONNECTION OF THIS PRODUCT

Please eject the disk from this product before the disconnection of USB
connector from the system.

V.  ENDUSER LICENSE AGREEMENT
********************************

Please read this before installing.

The following "ENDUSER LICENSE AGREEMENT" applies to the USB Floppy Disk Drive
Device Driver software provided by Sony.  Please read the following "ENDUSER
LICENSE AGREEMENT" before installing.  By installing the device driver
software, you agree to the "ENDUSER LICENSE AGREEMENT".

ENDUSER LICENSE AGREEMENT

This is a legal agreement between you (hereafter referred to as the User) and
Sony Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Sony) pertaining to the right to
use the USB Floppy Disk Drive Device Driver software (hereafter referred to as
the PROGRAM). Using the PROGRAM indicates your acceptance of these terms and
conclusion of the Agreement between the User and Sony.

1. Copyright and all other rights relating to the PROGRAM and documents
accompanying the PROGRAM are owned by Sony or the original rightful person or
organization (hereafter referred to as the original rightful person) granting
Sony the right to use the PROGRAM. The User is granted no rights other than
those specified in this agreement. 

2. Sony grants the User the non-exclusive, indivisible and non-transferable
right to use the PROGRAM for the purpose of using the Sony product "USB floppy
disk drive" for which the PROGRAM designates. 

3. The User may not transfer the Right of Use described above to any third
party nor allow for any third party to use the PROGRAM unless the User obtains
the advance written permission of Sony. 

4. The User may not export or transport the PROGRAM or documents accompanying
the PROGRAM from the country where the User installed the PROGRAM to any other
country. 

5. The User may not (i) update, add to, or modify nor (ii) de-assemble or
de-compile the PROGRAM either in whole or in. 

6. THE PROGRAM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES,
INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
OR NON-DEFECTIVENESS. 

7. If any dispute relating to infringement of copyright, patent, or other
intangible property rights arises between the User and a third party as a
consequence of use of the PROGRAM, the User shall settle the dispute at the
User's own expense, and shall make no claim against Sony or the original
rightful person. 

8. Sony may terminate your license upon notice for failure to comply with any
of these Terms. Any such termination shall not affect any payments, any
compensation for damage. Upon termination, you must immediately destroy the
Software together with all copies in any form.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
