---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Canon Camera TWAIN Driver README File Version 4.5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright (c)1997-2002 CANON INC. ____________________________________________________________________________ Thank you for your purchase of the Canon Camera. This README file contains the latest information on the Canon Camera TWAIN driver. Please read this file before using the TWAIN driver. Cautions Relating to the TWAIN Specification The TWAIN specification is periodically updated and software development companies modify their software to reflect these changes. Accordingly, problems may occur because some applications do not fully comply with the current TWAIN specification. Canon works closely with a range of software companies to identify and resolve these problems so that our users can enjoy trouble-free use of the software. ____________________________________________________________________________ -------- CONTENTS -------- 1. GENERAL ISSUES =================== (1) Disk Space The TWAIN driver creates a number of temporary files. These files will be deleted when the TWAIN driver shuts down. However, they may remain on the hard disk if the TWAIN driver crashes for any reason. The next time the TWAIN driver is activated, such temporary files should be deleted, if any. (2) 16-bit TWAIN and 32-bit TWAIN The Canon Camera TWAIN driver is a full 32-bit application. If you see the "TWAIN_32" and "TWAIN" options on the menu in the application program, always select "TWAIN_32". 2. Problems that may Occur when Using Some Display Cards ================================================= On some display cards, operation may become unstable when TWAIN driver is started from PhotoShopLE5.0. If this happens, use TWAIN driver starting PhotoShop after running the fixing program dispinit.exe. Since it is necessary to run dispinit.exe on each system start-up, it is recommended to register dispinit.exe as Windows start up program. * dispinit.exe is located in the same folder as the installer (setup.exe). On the CD, it is stored in the [SOFTWARE / TW_USB / YOUR CAMERA MODEL NAME / LANGUAGE] folder. 3. Cautions Relating to Windows 2000 Imaging ========================================================== When using Twain driver from the Windows 2000 Imaging application, set [Image Transfer to Application] on RAW Processing Settings tab in the Preferences dialog to [Each Color 8bit Transfer]. Since Windows 2000 Imaging application does not provide each color 16 bit transfer, image transfer cannot be performed correctly when [Each Color 16bit Transfer] is set. 4. Cautions Relating to Specific Applications and System Configurations ============================================ Canon has tested the operation of the driver on as many TWAIN-compatible applications and system configurations as possible. The following compatibility problems have been found. (1) Transferring images to Photoshop 5.0LE The maximum number of images that can be transferred to Photoshop 5.0LE at one time is 30. (2) Cautions relating to communication between the Canon Camera TWAIN driver and a Canon digital camera When the TWAIN driver is running and is connected to a camera, the driver makes communications with the camera periodically. Do not operate the camera controls, remove the memory card or battery, disconnect the communication cable, or otherwise interfere with the communications. Such actions may cause misoperation on some PCs. Wait until the TWAIN driver has shut down before doing such actions. (3) Cautions relating to USB and IEEE1394 connections Do not place your computer in standby mode while a Canon camera is connected to the USB or IEEE1394 port. If the computer goes into standby mode while the camera is connected to the USB or IEEE1394 port, do not disconnect the cable from the computer. Instead, restore the computer to normal operation mode with the cable still connected. Unplugging the cable with the computer in standby mode may cause some computers to not recover correctly from standby mode. For details on standby mode, refer to your computer's manual. 5. Cautions when Renewing Thumbnails after Changing Developing Conditions =========================================== Do not perform mouse operations while the progress dialog is displayed when you changed developing conditions after choosing multiple thumbnail images in the RAW format. If you performed mouse operations, the thumbnails after processing may not display correctly. If this happens, correct thumbnail images can be displayed after their adjustment using TWAIN driver window resizing or other methods. 6. Cautions Relating to Windows98SE ============================== Users running the Windows 98SE operating system are recommended to install the following update program from Microsoft web page to ensure more stable operation. "Windows 98 Second Edition 1394 Storage Supplement" 7. Cautions Relating to Windows98SE and WindowsME ================================================ When the camera is connected to the computer please set the auto power off function to [OFF]. 8. Cautions when Connecting to a Camera ======================== Communications with a camera cannot be performed while its LCD monitor is on. If the LCD monitor is on, turn off it (by semi-depressing the shutter button, for example) before connecting the camera to the computer. 9. Cautions Relating to Image Rotation Short-Cut Key ================================================= Image rotation to right or left using Ctrl+R and Ctrl+L keys does not function. For image rotation use [Right 90 degree Rotation] or [Left 90 degree Rotation] buttons from the toolbar. 10. About Files Saved in TIFF(16bit/ch) ====================================== Images saved in the TIFF(16bit/ch) format are not displayed correctly in the thumbnails view of the Windows Explorer. 11. Note on using Camera EOS-1D ======================================= 1) Displaying Image Information The correct time value is not recorded for the image's shutter speed property in the case of long-duration bulb exposures of 100 minutes or more. 2) 8-bit Linear Image Transfer When an image quality of the RAW image shot by EOS-1D was adjusted using an image retouch software, after the image was transferred using 8-bit linear method, noise in the dark parts may appear. Use of 16-bit transfer is recommended for linear transfer. 3) Setting IPTC Information IPTC Information cannot be set when [All] is selected for image display format. Set image display format to [EOS-1D RAW] or [All EOS-1D] 4) Selecting White Balance List Box After Applying Click White Balance For EOS-1D images, processed with click white balance, click white balance always takes priority, so that even if the [White balance] list box is checked on, this setting will not be reflected. Disable [Click white balance] by clearing the [Click white balance] checkbox to enable selection from [White balance] list box. <End of File>Download Driver Pack
