3Com Corporation 3Com Megahertz 10/100 LAN CardBus PC Card (3CCFE575BT) Windows 95 Network Driver Installation Notes WINDOWS 95 AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS NETWORKING This document describes how to configure the PC Card for use with Windows 95. These procedures are also described in the user guide. NOTE: If you are using a network connection on your PC, some of the following instructions may not apply or may produce different results. Refer to your MIS department or system manager for instructions. Before installing the network driver, you should know the following: The name of your Windows 95 workgroup Also, for a successful installation, you will need: - Windows 95 system CAB files (either on hard disk, floppy diskettes, or CD) - PC Card and the LAN Installation Disk - Which version of Windows 95 are you running: Windows 95 version 4.00.950 or 4.00.950a Windows 95 version 4.00.950b (OSR 2) Which Windows 95 Version Am I Running? You must determine if you are running the new Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR 2)or the standard Windows 95 before you install the driver. Since standard Windows 95 does not support CardBus, the driver installation instructions are different. If you already know which version of Windows 95 you are running, skip to the appropriate Windows 95 section to install the network driver on your PC. Follow these steps to find out which version of Windows 95 you are running: 1. In the Windows 95 Control Panel, double-click System to display the System Properties dialog box. 2. Click the General Tab to display the Windows 95 version information. If your Windows 95 version is 4.00.950 or 4.00.950a, go to the next section to install the network driver. If your Windows 95 version is 4.00.950b (OSR 2), go to the Windows 95 Version 4.00.950b (OSR 2) section to install the network driver. Installing the Network Driver Follow these steps to install the network driver in a PC running Windows 95 versions 4.00.950 and 4.00.950a. 1. Insert the PC Card and connect it to the network as described in Chapter 1. 2. In the Windows 95 Control Panel, double-click Add New Hardware. 3. In the Add New Hardware Wizard window, click Next. 4. Respond to the Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware prompt with No and click Next. 5. Double-click on Network Adapters in the list that appears and click Next. 6. In the Select Device window, click on the Have Disk button. 7. Insert the LAN Installation Disk in the diskette drive and click OK. 8. Select 3Com Megahertz 10/100 LAN CardBus PC Card (3CCFE575BT) manual load and click OK. 9. In the New Hardware Wizard Window, click Next to install the driver. 10. Click Finish to complete the driver installation. If the software prompts for Computer Name and Work Group Name, type the names as supplied by your MIS department and click OK. If you are prompted for Windows 95 files, enter the directory path for Windows 95 CAB files or insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM. When installation is complete, Windows 95 prompts for restart. 13. Remove the LAN Installation Disk and click Yes to restart the PC. The network driver installation is complete. Windows 95 Version 4.00.950b (OSR 2) This Windows 95 release has built-in CardBus support. Follow these steps to install the network driver in a PC running Windows 95 version 4.00.950b, also known as OEM Service Release (OSR) 2. 1. Make sure the PC Card is installed and and connected to the network as described in Chapter 1 in the user guide. 2. In the Update Device Driver window, click Next. 3. Click Other Locations. 4. Insert the LAN Installation Disk. 5. Type a: 6. Click OK. 7. In the Update Device Driver Wizard, click Finish. 8. In the copying files window, select a: 9. Click OK. If prompted, supply the Windows 95 CD-ROM or type the directory path to the Windows 95 files on your PC. 10. Remove the LAN Installation Disk and restart the PC. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
