All Rights Reserved. Driver Installation Please adhere to the following instructions for proper installation of your KNE-CB4TX adapter. IMPORTANT NOTE: You must use the Driver from the Drivers Diskette included with the KNE-CB4TX for your adapter to function properly with Windows 98. The driver that ships with Windows 98 won't function properly. ===================================================================== Installing the KNE-CB4TX NDIS4 Driver for Windows 98 ===================================================================== 1. Remove all CardBus PC Cards from your system. 2. Start Windows 98. 3. Insert the Kingston EtheRx CardBus 10/100 Fast Ethernet adapter. 4. "New Hardware Found" window will be displayed. 5. Click Next in the Add New Hardware Wizard window. The installation options will be displayed. 6. Insert the Drivers Diskette included with the KNE-CB4TX. 7. Select the "Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)" and then click Next to continue. 8. Choose "Floppy disk drives" option and specify a location (A:\) then click Next to continue. 9. Select "The updated driver" option, then click Next to continue. 10. Follow the instructions shown on the screen to finish the installation. PLEASE NOTE: If you didn't follow the above procedure and used the driver that ships with Windows, you will need to update the driver to use the Kingston driver - see the "Updating the Windows 98 Driver" section further down in this document. The driver that ships with Windows 98 won't function properly. ===================================================================== Installing the KNE-CB4TX NDIS4 Driver for Windows 95 (OSR2) (For Versions 4.00.1111 and later) ===================================================================== 1. Start Windows 95. 2. Insert the Kingston EtheRx CardBus 10/100 Fast Ethernet adapter. 3. Allow the Plug and Play facility to install the KNE-CB4TX PC Card. 4. Insert the Drivers Diskette included with the KNE-CB4TX when the "Update Device Driver Wizard" screen displays and then select Next. 5. Follow the instructions shown on the screen to finish the installation. 6. If Windows prompts: "The file 'ktccb4n4.inf on Windows CD-ROM cannot be found", then in the "Copy files from:" field select the floppy(A:\) drive. ===================================================================== Installing the KNE-CB4TX NDIS3 Driver for Old Versions of Windows 95 ===================================================================== Window 95 (versions 4.00.950 and 4.00.950a) does not support CardBus PC cards automatically. However, the KNE-CB4TX PC cards come with the drivers that support Windows 95. Before installing, you need to disable PC card support. I. Disabling CardBus PC Card Support ===================================================================== 1. In the Control Panel, double-click the System icon. 2. The System Properties window appears, click the Device Manager button. 3. Double-click PCMCIA Socket. 4. Click PCIC or compatible PCMCIA controller. 5. Click Remove. 6. The Removal Confirmation window appears. Click OK and the System Settings Change window will appear. When you restart the computer the first time after removing the PCIC device, you will be prompted to select a driver. Choose "Do not install a driver". This prompt will not be shown again. II. Installing the driver ===================================================================== 1. Start Windows 95. 2. Insert in the Kingston EtheRx CardBus 10/100 Fast Ethernet adapter. 3. Click the Start button at the lower left corner. 4. Choose Settings and click Control Panel. 5. In the Control Panel window, double-click the Network icon. 6. In the Network dialog box, click Add. 7. In the Select Network Component Type window, double-click Adapter. 8. In the Select Network Adapter, click Have Disk. Insert the KNE-CB4TX Drivers Diskette into the floppy drive. 9. Type A:\WIN95 and click OK and the Select Network Adapters window will appear. 10. Select the "Kingston EtheRx CardBus 10/100 Fast Ethernet adapter Manual Load for Win95", and click OK. 11. In the Network window, click OK. The dialog box appears and displays various settings. An asterisk in any field indicates that the current setting is being used. Use the Up or Down arrow to adjust the setting until the asterisk disappears. 12. Click OK and the Copying Files window appears. 13. Insert your original Windows 95 CD and click OK. If Windows 95 was pre-installed on your computer, the necessary files are located in the following directory: C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS 14. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. ===================================================================== Updating the Windows 98 Driver ===================================================================== IMPORTANT NOTE: If during driver installation, you used the driver that ships with Windows 98, you will need to update the driver as follows: 1. Select "My Computer" from the Windows desktop. 2. Select "Control Panel" 3. Select "System" 4. Select "Device Manager" 5. Select "DC21143 - Based Ethernet adapter" so it is highlighted (This should be listed under "Network adapter" in the list of devices). 6. Select "Properties" 7. Select "Driver" 8. Select "Update Driver" 9. Set the radio button to "No, select driver from list", then select "Next" 10. Select "Have Disk" 11. Place the diskette into your computer, make sure the drive listed is correct, and select "Ok" 12. Answer any prompts that appear on the screen. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
