3. RELEASE NOTES

A. General information

This release provides Direct Sound drivers for 1815/1816/1816A products.
These drivers are in process of certification by Microsoft for the Designed
  Windows 95 level.
In addition, provisions are made to customize the the Win 95 initial settings
to desired initial conditions. This applies to visible names, default levels,
mute state, and presence of any selected control. These custom settings will
also be seen when using the Mediarack app, supplied by ADI.

B. Limitations of this release

  1. The release 4.02.0104 is released for production purposes only. A proper
license agreement for usage with the AD1816 and AD1815 will have to
be put in place for official usage in production releases of your
company's AD1815 or AD1816 based soundcards that bundle the wavetable
     with it.

  2. The release 4.02.0104 is an official production release. As such, any known
and reported bugs will be rectified in subsequent releases.

  5. The release 4.02.0104 is not yet certified as a "Designed for WIN95 driver
however we believe it complies with the criteria for WHQL. ADI is
commited to compliance of all its computer audio products to Win95
logo certification. As such, the "Designed for Win95" certification
will be announced as soon as it is available.

5. CONFIGURATION INSTRUCTIONS

5.1 On the topic of Microsoft drivers and release diskettes

On page 12 of the WHQL ACT 2.0 January release, Microsoft states " test
adapter's .INF must not copy any files shipping with Win95 from the vendor
  -supplied disk."

Our INF file is set up to read the files MSJSTICK, MSOPL, MSPPU401 from the
  Windows 95 CD-ROM, which is correct. That's where the OPL3, MPU-401, and
  joystick drivers come from.
For Designed for Win 95 certification testing at the Windows Hardware Quality
Labs, (WHQL), an OEM must not supply any Microsoft files to the WHQL.

As a convenience to OEM customer's, an OEM can add MSJSTICK, MSOPL, MSMPU401
to the OEM's release diskette. This would save a user the trouble of locating
an original Windows 95 CD. Remember, however, that this is not allowed by WHQL.

5.2 Setting up customized names and default levels for Win 95 Mixer

The version of 15_16w95.inf has all of the mixer settings and
configuration options enumerated for customization. All of the settings are
commented out, so to edit the INF file to a specific need, just uncomment the
line(s) corresponding to the items you want to set and edit the values to
  whatever the customer needs.
There are brief comments embedded in the file to help you get started.

Note that the settings included in the [Mixer.AddReg] section should not be
  relocated within the INF file.

5.3 Games and Win 95 DOS boxes..

  > The Configuration Manager will normally disable all PnP devices when
  > "Shutdown to DOS" is selected. In a subsequent release, we will
  > provide a method to retain the 1815/16/16A on the bus, so that
  > DOS games can be played. Release 4.02.0104 does not contain this capability
  > at this time.
  >

5.4 Special use of XC0 and XC1 to disable Win 95 Mixer advanced button.

This set of drivers provide external control disabling and renaming.
The long name can now be used to set individual controls names in Win 95.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Bug Fixes.

6.1 There was a problem with previous drivers. If you start a game in a DOS
box (Descent2 using OPL3), terminate the game, and close the DOS box,
then open MPlayer and try to play a MIDI file, there is silence. Open the
mixer and touch a control, and the sounds return. If I play a wave file after
closing the DOS box, sounds (wave and MIDI) are present.

6.2 XC0 and XC1 were not disabled, when modified as such in the WPUNIMIX.INI file.
     This is now fixed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. TROUBLESHOOTING

A. No sound.

Make sure that the following items are correctly set:

    1. There are no resource conflicts for the Codec and the MPU-401
logical devices in the <Device Manager>. See your Win95 user's
guide how to solve such conflicts.
    2. The Master volume control in the <Master Volume> panel
       are not muted.
    3. The Line_out/Speaker connector on your soundcard is properly
       connected to the speakers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. KNOWN PROBLEMS

The following problems are known problems and will be rectified in
subsequent releases of the driver.

The XC0 and XC1 controls do not respond to disable=1 in WPUNIMIX.INI
This will be corrected in a later release.
