V.90 56K Fax/Modem PC Card Readme File
Thank you for purchasing the V.90 56K Fax/Modem PC Card.
This readme file will show you how to easily install the
fax/modem card into your notebook.
System Requirements
The minimum and recommended system requirements for
V.90 fax/modem PC card are as follows:
„« 1. A notebook/computer equipped with PCMCIA Release
2.1 or later Type II slot
„« 2. 4MB or higher RAM
„« 3. Card and Socket Services Software (if not using Windows
95 or later)
„« 4. A standard RJ-11 phone line
„« 5. Access to internet via an ISP which offers V.90
transmissions
„« 6. DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows NT4.0, Windows 95 or
Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Mellenium
Windows Mellenium Plug and Play Installation
1. Turn on your computer and start up Windows ME.
2. Insert release diskette in PC's drive A:
3. When Windows ME has finished its start up, insert the
fax/modem card properly into the PCMCIA socket.
4. A dialogue box "Add New Hardware Wizard" shows up.
Please select (click) "Automatic search for a better
driver (Recommended)", then click "Next". Windows ME
will automatically find the PC Card's driver from
drive A:.
Windows 2000 Plug and Play Installation
A "Standard PCMCIA Card Modem" driver is already bundled in
Windows 2000 for this 56Kbps Fax Modem PCMCIA PC Card.
When this PC Card is inserted to your Notebook PC's
PC Card (PCMCIA) socket, the Windows 2000 bundled
driver will be automatically installed.
However, you may follow steps below to update the bundled
driver with the released one found in your floppy diskette
or CD-ROM.
My Computer->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->
Computer Management->System Tools->Device Manager
->->Modem->->Standard PCMCIA Card Modem->Driver->
Update Driver. Type A: (from floppy diskette installation)
or D: (from CD-ROM installation), then
a message of "56Kbps Fax Modem PC Card" driver is shown.
You may click Yes to replace the driver.
Windows 98 Plug and Play Installation
1. Turn on your computer and start up Windows 98.
2. When Windows 98 has finished its start up, insert the
fax/modem card properly into the PCMCIA socket.
3. The Add New Hardware Wizard should then appear
and click Next.
4. The Add New Hardware Wizard will recommend you
to Search for the best driver for your device and
click Next.
5. Insert the fax/modem card driver disk into your
floppy disk drive, and select the Floppy disk drives,
and click Next.
6. The Add New Hardware Wizard will search your
floppy disk drive and find the installation file,
"56Kbps Fax Modem PC Card" or "Standard PCMCIA Card Modem",
please click Next for setup.
7. Now Windows 98 has finished installing the fax
modem software, click Finish to complete the
installation.
Windows 95 Plug and Play Installation
1. Make sure your PCMCIA socket drivers have been
installed before installing this card. To verify, go to
Control Panel, double-click the Modems icon, and
look under Device Manager for a PCMCIA Socket.
2. When Windows 95 has finished its startup, insert the
fax/modem card properly into the PCMCIA socket. The
New Hardware Found dialog box should appear.
3. Choose Driver from disk provided by hardware
manufacturer and click the OK button.
4. When the dialog box shown below appears, insert the
installation disk into your floppy drive and type A:\ or
B:\ , depending on which floppy drive you are using.
Then, click OK.
5. Select device "56Kbps Fax/Modem PC Card" or
"Standard PCMCIA Card Modem", and click OK.
6. Windows 95 will configure the V.90 fax/modem PC
card. You will hear a double beep after configuration is
completed.
Windows 95 OSR2 Plug & Play Installation
1. Turn on the computer and start up Windows 95 OSR2.
2. When Windows 95 OSR2 has finished its startup,
insert your fax/modem card properly into the PCMCIA
socket.
3. The Update Device Driver Wizard should then appear.
Click the Next button.
4. The Select Other Location dialog box will then appear.
5. Type A:\ or B:\ , depending on which floppy drive you
are using. Then, click OK.
6. The following dialog box will appear when Windows
95 OSR2 finds your fax/modem driver, "56Kbps Fax Modem PC Card"
or "Standard PCMCIA Card Modem".
7. Click the Finish button in the Update Device Driver
Wizard to complete the installation.
DOS/Windows 3.x Installation
First, make sure that the card and socket services drivers are
already installed in your system. Then simply insert your V.90
fax/modem PC card into a PCMCIA slot on your notebook and
install its driver software.
The COM port setting for your fax/modem card in card and
socket services should be the same as in your communication
software.
Windows NT4.0 Installation
1. Turn on your computer and start up Windows NT4.0.
2. When Windows NT4.0 has completed its startup, insert
the 56Kbps Fax Modem PC card properly into the PCMCIA
socket.
3. Double-click "My Computer" icon, then double-click
"Control Panel".
4. Double-click "Modems" icon. Please do NOT select
"Don't detect my modem, I will select it it from a list".
(Windows NT will automatically find a free COM port.)
Then click "Next" button.
5. NT will find a "Standard Modem" device driver and you are
suggested to use this driver or use the most updated driver
in the release diskette (Click the "Change" button, then
click "Have Disk". Type "A:\", then click OK to find
"56Kbps FAX Modem PC Card". You also need to provide a free
COM port. Click "Next" to complete driver installation.
Please restart Windows NT for further installations.
6. Install Dial-Up Network:
After the "Modem" is installed, additionally you need
to install Dial-Up Network to connect to your ISP
(Internet Service Provider).
a. Click "My Computer", then click "Dial-Up Networking",
then click "Install".
b. Insert Windows NT 4.0 source (installation) CD to
CD drive (if D:), type D:\I386 when RASCFG.DLL
file is requested, then click OK.
c. Do not select any item and just click OK on the
"add RAS Device" Dialogue box.
d. On Remote Access Setup dialogue box, click "Network"
button, and select appropriate network protocols
(It is suggested that NETBEUI, TCP/IP, and IPX are
all selected). Then click "Continue". Then click
"Restart" button.
e. Go to "My Computer" again after NT restarts. Then,
click "Dial-Up Networking" icon. Click OK to add
an entry for phonebook. Click "Next" on the New
Phonebook Entry Wizard dialogue box. Click "Next"
on the Server dialogue box. Type your ISP phone
number.
f. Click the Finish button. Then a "Dial-Up Networking"
dialogue box shows up. Please click "More" button
to select "Edit entry and modem properties".
On the "Edit phonebook Entry" dialogue box, select
"Security" button to choose "Accept any authentication
including clear text" for a PPP protocol connection or
other authentications. Then click OK.
g. You may click Dial button to connect your ISP.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
