INSTALLATION DISKETTE ------------------------- The Dynapro Touch Screen Driver Disk contains all the software you need to use the touch screen on the ErgoTouch 4000 Computer inside Windows 95. Included on this diskette are the touch screen driver, configuration files, and configuration utilities. This file describes how to install the touch screen driver and utilities on your computer, and how to import and export the touch configuration. 2. HOW TO INSTALL THE TOUCH SCREEN SOFTWARE -------------------------------------------- If you have previously installed the touch screen driver on your ErgoTouch 4000 unit, you must go to section 3 for details on how to upgrade the driver. To install the software onto your ErgoTouch Computer for the first time, you must have Windows 95 running on the computer, and you must have access to the unit's floppy disk drive. Follow these steps: 1. From the "Start" menu, select "Settings" and then "Control Panel". 2. Open the "Add New Hardware" Wizard, then select "Next". 3. You will be asked if you want Windows to search for your new hardware. Select "No". This is because Windows cannot detect the presence of the ErgoTouch touch screen at this time. Select "Next". 4. The next screen will display a list of hardware types, and will ask you which type to install. Highlight the "Mouse" icon and select "Next". 5. The next screen will display the mouse manufacturers and models that are available on the Windows 95 CD-ROM. Select "Have Disk" to ignore this list and install from a floppy disk. 6. Insert the ErgoTouch Touch Drivers/Utilities, Windows 95 diskette in the diskette drive attached to the unit and select "OK" at the "Install From Disk" dialog. 7. The next screen will list the mouse models available on the installation diskette. There will be only one entry, "ErgoTouch Touch Screen Driver". Select "Next" to choose this driver. 8. The next screen will inform you that Windows can continue installing your hardware now. Select "Finish" to proceed with the installation. 9. A dialog box will appear with the title "Copying Files", and will display the progress of the installation. After all files have been copied, the dialog will disappear and there will be a brief pause while the system attempts to load the driver. At this point, the installation is complete. 10. The Add New Hardware Wizard will now exit. You must restart Windows 95 for the changes to the "Start" menu take effect. When Windows 95 restarts, the "Start" menu will have an additional entry under "Programs" called "ErgoTouch Utilities". This new sub-menu will have two items: "Configuration" and "Startup Log". WARNING: Do not use the "General" property sheet of the "Mouse" dialog to install the driver for the first time. The installation process copies the Touch Screen utilities to the \TOUCH\W95 directory on the hard drive. 3. HOW TO UPGRADE THE TOUCH SCREEN SOFTWARE -------------------------------------------- After you've installed the Touch Screen Drivers and Utilities, you may want to reinstall them. This is typically only be required when you are upgrading your software with a new release. The procedure for this is much the same as for installing the software for the first time, in Section 2 above. Follow these steps to reinstall the ErgoTouch Computer software: 1. From the "Start" menu, select "Settings" and then "Control Panel". 2. Open the "System" icon. Select the "Device Manager" property sheet. 3. Expand the "Mouse" icon to show the devices currently installed under the Mouse class. One of the resulting entries should indicate that it is the "ErgoTouch Touch Screen Driver". 4. Highlight the touch screen driver, and then select "Remove" to delete this driver from the system configuration. 5. A "Confirm Device Removal" dialog will warning you that you are about to remove this device from your system. Select "OK". 6. The Device Manager should now no longer contain an entry for our touch screen driver under the "Mouse" icon. Select "Close" to finalize the change. You will be returned to the Control panel. 7. Proceed with Steps 2 through 10 in Section 2 to install the touch screen software from the installation diskette. NOTE: You may also use the "General" property sheet of the "Mouse" dialog in the Control Panel, but only if the current driver name is "ErgoTouch Touch Screen Driver". 4. CONCURRENT MOUSE AND TOUCH SCREEN OPERATION ----------------------------------------------- The Windows 95 Touch Screen driver supports concurrent mouse and touch screen operation. To facilitate this, you must make sure that an appropriate driver is installed for your mouse. The recommended way for doing this is via the "Add New Hardware" Wizard in the Control Panel. With your mouse plugged into the unit, have the Wizard detect new hardware for you by selecting "Yes" at the prompt on the first screen. Do not select "No" and manually choose a mouse driver. Once the Add New Hardware Wizard has detected your mouse and installed the appropriate mouse driver, your mouse will work concurrently with the touch screen. If the Wizard fails to detect your mouse, then you may not use it concurrently with the touch screen. You must use a mouse that is detectable by Windows 95, such as a Microsoft or Logitech mouse. 5. STANDARD TOUCH SCREEN GRAPHICS ---------------------------------- Included with the software on this diskette is the Touch Screen Configuration Import/Export Utility TOUCHINI.EXE. When you install the touch screen software, this utility is placed in the directory \TOUCH\W95 on your Windows 95 drive. This utility allows you to configure the touch screen driver by reading a file containing the configuration and writing the configuration to the Windows 95 Registry, and to extract the touch screen configuration from the Registry and write it to a file. By using the TOUCHINI utility, you can easily generate a configuration file that can be copied and imported to many ErgoTouch Computer units without requiring manual configuration for each unit. Exporting: --------- To export the current configuration from the Windows 95 Registry into a file, execute the following command from a Windows 95 DOS command prompt: TOUCHINI /o This creates a file called TOUCH.INI, which contains an ASCII representation of the touch screen configuration. You can override the default filename by specifying a file after the /o command line option (for example, "TOUCHINI /oCONFIG.INI"). This file can later be used to import the same configuration into your unit, as per the import instructions which follow. Importing: --------- Also included with the software on this diskette are default touch screen configuration files. These files are placed in the \TOUCH\W95 directory when the touch screen driver is installed. To import these files into the registry, execute the following command from a Windows 95 DOS command prompt: TOUCHINI /i[filename] where [filename] is the name of the configuration file you have selected. The new configuration will take effect the next time you restart Windows 95. The files installed are as follows: 10803.INI - For standard 10" graphic 10804.INI - For standard 12" graphic 10805.INI - For standard 14" graphic 10806.INI - For standard 18" graphic 10807.INI - For Qwerty 10" graphic The name of the file matches the number located on the standard graphic. IMPORTANT: any previous touch screen configuration is erased during the import process, except the alignment data. 6. THE ERGOTOUCH COMPUTER BACKLIGHT SAVER ------------------------------------------ The ErgoTouch Computer Backlight Saver is automatically installed when you install the touch screen driver. This application is invoked by the touch screen driver each time Windows 95 starts up. The application runs in the background, and is not visible to the user. To configure the backlight saver, you must use the Configuration utility, located in Start-->Programs-->ErgoTouch Utilities. Consult the User's Manual for details of its operation.
