-------------------------------------------------------------------- 3M Dynapro ET 300/350/400 Monitor Touch Screen Drivers and Utilities For Windows 9x -------------------------------------------------------------------- This document supplements the information in 3M Dynapro ET 300/350/400 Monitor Installation Guides. It covers the following topics: 1. Installation diskette 2. How to install/upgrade the touch screen driver software 3. Concurrent mouse and touch screen operation 4. Standard touch screen graphic 5. How to change touch screen sensitivity 6. How to use Mouse Button Swap 7. Uninstalling the touch screen software 1. INSTALLATION DISKETTE ------------------------- The 3M Dynapro touch screen driver disk contains all the software you need to use the touch screen on a 3M Dynapro ET 300/350/400 Monitor running with Windows 9x on the host computer. Included on this diskette are the touch screen driver, configuration files, and configuration utilities for Windows 9x. This file describes how to install the touch screen driver and utilities on your computer and how to import and export the touch configuration. 2. HOW TO INSTALL/UPGRADE THE TOUCH SCREEN SOFTWARE ---------------------------------------------------- To install or upgrade the software for your 3M Dynapro ET 300/350/400 Monitor onto your host computer (typically, on hard disk drive C:\), you must have Windows 9x running on the host computer and have a floppy disk drive connected. Follow these steps: 1. Insert the 3M Dynapro touch screen driver disk into the floppy disk drive. 2. From the "Start" menu, select "Run". In the "Open" field, enter the full path to the installation utility (e.g. A:\install). You can use the "Browse" button to find the install utility. 3. Choose OK to continue. The "3M Dynapro Touch Screen Installation" dialog box appears and displays: * Driver version * Touch screen configuration * Target directory, and * Target folder 4. Select the configuration corresponding to your monitor hardware, then select "Next" to proceed with the installation. (Note: If you select the Custom touch screen configuration, the current configuration, if any, is left unchanged and no new configuration is loaded.) A communication port dialog box appears. The communication dialog box allows you to select the communication port for touch screen operation. 5. Select the desired port from the list of standard ports or define a custom port using the "Interrupt" and "I/O Address" lists. 6. Select "Next". A dialog box appears showing all the installation information that has been entered. 7. If you are satisfied with your choices, select "Install" to start the installation. All installation steps will be displayed on the screen. 3. CONCURRENT MOUSE AND TOUCH SCREEN OPERATION ----------------------------------------------- The Windows 9x touch screen driver supports concurrent mouse and touch screen operation. To facilitate this, you must make sure that an appropriate driver is installed for your mouse. The recommended method for doing this is: 1. Make sure your mouse is properly attached to the unit. 2. From the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel" and then select "Add New Hardware". The Add New Hardware wizard dialog box appears asking whether you want the Wizard to detect new hardware for you. 3. Select "Yes". Once the Add New Hardware Wizard has detected your mouse and installed the appropriate mouse driver, your mouse will work concurrently with the touch screen. If the Wizard fails to detect your mouse, then you may not use it concurrently with the touch screen. You must use a mouse that is detectable by Windows 9x (e.g., a Microsoft or Logitech mouse). 4. STANDARD TOUCH SCREEN GRAPHICS ---------------------------------- Included with the software on this diskette is the Touch Screen Configuration Import/Export Utility TOUCHINI.EXE. When you install the touch screen software, this utility is placed in the directory \TOUCH\W9x on your Windows 9x drive. This utility allows you to configure the touch screen driver by: * Reading a file containing the configuration * Writing the configuration to the Windows 9x Registry * Extracting the touch screen configuration from the Registry and * Writing the configuration to a file. By using the TOUCHINI utility, you can easily generate a configuration file that can be copied and imported to many hosts without requiring manual configuration for each 3M Dynapro ET 300/350/400 Monitor. Exporting: --------- To export the current configuration from the Windows 9x Registry into a file, execute the following command from a Windows 9x DOS command prompt: TOUCHINI /o This creates a file called TOUCH.INI, which contains an ASCII representation of the touch screen configuration. You can override the default filename by specifying a file after the /o command line option (for example,"TOUCHINI /oCONFIG.INI"). This file can later be used to import the same configuration into your unit, as per the import instructions which follow. Importing: --------- Also included with the software on this diskette are the TouchSurround configuration files. These files are placed in the \TOUCH\W9x directory when the touch screen software is installed. To import one of these files into the registry, execute the following command from a Windows 9x DOS command prompt {C:\TOUCH\NT>}: TOUCHINI /i[file name] where [file name] is one of the following: GR100M.INI - Standard 10.4" Display (ET 400 Monitor) CS401M.INI - Standard 13.8" Display (ET 300 Monitor) 350.INI - Standard 15.0" Display (ET 350 Monitor) These files define the TouchSurround buttons and also the display area characteristics. When you install/upgrade the software, you may choose one of these files to "import" as part of the installation process (as described in Step 4 of Section 2.) 5. HOW TO CHANGE TOUCH SCREEN SENSITIVITY ------------------------------------------ Touch screen sensitivity configuration is a new feature for 3M Dynapro ET monitors that allows the user to adjust how readily a touch is detected. The higher the setting, the more sensitive the touch screen. A very high setting is useful when the user is wearing gloves. A lower setting is useful when an ungloved finger or an alignment tool is being used. To adjust sensitivity, follow these steps: 1. From the Windows desktop, select Start and then select Programs, then select Touch Screen Utilities and then select Configuration. The Configuration Utilities dialog box appears. 2. In the Configuration Utilities dialog box, select Other. The Other Configuration Utilities dialog box appears. 3. From the Other Configuration Utilities dialog box, select the Sensitivity button. The Sensitivity Configuration dialog box appears. The dialog box includes a slider that can be adjusted from Low to High (with numbered settings of 2, 3, 4, and 5 in between Low and High sensitivity). 4. Adjust the slider to the desired setting. 3M Touch Systems recommends the following settings depending on how you will be touching the touch screen. If you will be touching the screen with: * a bare finger or latex glove: 2 or 3 * an alignment tool: 3 or higher * a cloth glove: 3 or higher * a leather glove: 3 or higher * a rubber glove: 4 or higher NOTE: It may take up to 10 seconds for a change of sensitivity to take effect. 5. To check a new setting, select the Test button on the Sensitivity Configuration dialog box. 6. To save sensitivity changes, select OK to return to the Other dialog box and then select OK to return to the Configuration Utility dialog box. 6. HOW TO USE MOUSE BUTTON SWAP -------------------------------- Use the Button Selector Window to select either right-mouse or left-mouse button click emulation in response to a touch. To use Mouse Button Swap, follow these steps: 1. From the Windows desktop, select Start, then select Programs, then select Touch Screen Utilities, and then select Mouse Button Swap. The Mouse Button Swap window appears displaying a picture of a mouse. You can position the Mouse Button Swap window anywhere on the screen. 2. To turn on right mouse button emulation (the default is left mouse button emulation), touch anywhere on the Mouse picture. In the Mouse Button Swap window, the right mouse button is now highlighted (and the left mouse button is not). Note that when you touch the Mouse Button Swap window, the pointer remains in its last position. This reminds you where you were touching before changing the mouse button emulation. 3. Touch the screen once to check that the Mouse Button Swap is successful. A contextual menu or other right mouse button function displays. 7. UNINSTALLING THE TOUCH SCREEN SOFTWARE ------------------------------------------ To uninstall the touch screen software you can use the utility placed on your Touch Screen directory "\TOUCH\W9x". From the "Start" menu, select "Run" and enter the full path to the uninstallation utility (e.g., C:\TOUCH\W9x\UNINSTAL.EXE) and follow the on-line instructions. -------------------------------------------------------------------- COPYRIGHT This document is © 3M 2002.
