Previous Versions: Release 3.30 This release adds support for the Windows H/PC computers running Windows CE Professional Edition (Jupiter). Additionally, the Windows CE installer has been upgraded to utilize the Windows CE Services 2.x Application Manager. Release 3.20 This release fixes a known problem with Windows NT 4.0. Included is a new Dual Serial Control Panel applet that will run under Windows 9x and NT 4.0. This product requires third party Card & Socket Services in order to function under Windows NT 4.0. Softex and Phoenix both make such a product and both have been tested with the D-I/O. You can purchase the Phoenix Card Executive for Windows NT 4.0 from Socket by contacting our sales department at 510-744-2700, or fax at (510) 744-2727. You can also e-mail Socket at info@socketcom.com or visit our web site at http://www.socketcom.com. The logging capability available in the previous driver has been removed since it is no longer necessary. Release 3.11 This release adds an enhanced Windows NT 4.0 driver, plus a logging capability in the NT driver. The Control Panel applet has been updated to allow turning on or off the event logging. In some cases, there has been an unidentified problem with the dualio.sys correctly enabling the card under Windows NT 4.0. If the problem exits, an error message will appear in the Control Panel applet that says, "Cannot Detect Com Ports". There is currently no workaround available for the problem. Release 3.00 This release includes the addition of Windows CE drivers and DOS Direct Enablers. Release 2.01 This release corrected a problem where the Dual I/O could not be configured by Windows NT 4.0 on some notebooks. The file DUALIO.SYS was updated. Release 2.00 This release included a driver for Windows NT 4.0, and fixed the problem of using COM 5 on Windows 95. There was a new option in the Control Panel applet which can indicate advanced configuration information. 2.0 FILE LOCATIONS 2.1 Windows CE file locations WINDOWS \ Dualioq.cpl WINDOWS \ dualio.htc WINDOWS \ dio_bat.htp WINDOWS \ dio_port.htp WINDOWS \ dio_remv.htp WINDOWS \ dio_rest.htp WINDOWS \ Dual IO Drivers.unload 2.2 Windows 9x file locations Windows 95 v950B & Windows 98 WINDOWS \ SYSTEM \ Dualio.cpl - copied from disk WINDOWS \ SYSTEM \ Sktdio.vxd - copied from disk WINDOWS \ INF \ OTHER \ MicrosoftSKT_DIO.INF - created by install Windows 95 v950 WINDOWS \ SYSTEM \ Dualio.cpl - copied from disk WINDOWS \ SYSTEM \ Sktdio.vxd - copied from disk WINDOWS \ INF \ OEM#.INF - created by install (Check second line of file for "Socket Communications ...") 2.3 Windows NT file locations WINNT \ SYSTEM32 \ Dualio.cpl - copied from disk 2.4 DOS file locations Files are manually copied to the SOCKETDO directory. 3.0 RELEASE NOTES This README.TXT file applies to the Dual Serial I/O Installation Disk v3.40. 3.1 To install the Dual Serial I/O Card under Windows NT 4.0 follow these steps: a) Please remove the previous version of the driver, see section 4.3 of this document. b) Insert Softex Disk 1 c) Select START, Run d) Type a:\setup e) Follow on screen directions f) Reboot when installation is complete g) Run Diagnostics as per on screen directions h) Reboot when Diagnostics is complete i) Insert Dual Card j) Select "Install System Driver" k) Insert Socket Dual I/O Installation Disk v3.2 l) Select START, RUN m) Type a:\setup n) This will automatically install the Control Panel applet 3.2 To install the Dual I/O in Windows 98, you should: a) Insert the Dual I/O card in the PC Card slot, the first time Windows 98 brings up an "Add New Hardware Wizard".
