O v e r v i e w This README.TXT contains instructions to install and configure the Windows 95 driver and MediaRack applet for the 3D WebSound. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- B. R e l e a s e N o t e s This release of the Windows 95 driver supports the following features on the 3D WebSound. 1. MPC Level 3 Mixer 2. Digital Mixer 3. WSS Codec 4. SBPro Codec 5. Game Port 6. MIDI Port 7. I2S1 8. 3D Sound Control The following features are NOT supported by this release: 1. Extra Logical Device 2. DSP Serial Port 3. Power Management 4. I2S0 NOTES: Do not check the "Sound, MIDI, or Video Capture Card" on installing your Windows 95. The sound driver can not be installed properly if you install the default Microsoft sound driver on setup. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- C. D r i v e r I n s t a l l a t i o n Install the 3D WebSound onto an existed Windows 95 system: 1. Start the computer with Windows 95. From the Device Manager, remove all previously installed sound card drivers. Make sure that all references to these drivers are removed from the C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. 2. Switch off the computer and remove all other sound cards. 3. Insert the 3D WebSound board firmly in an available ISA bus expansion slot and close the computer. 4. Reboot or restart the computer. As Windows 95 restarts, you may see a window explaining that it is "Building Driver information database". 5. A window will show "New Hardware Found", and ask where the driver should be copied from. Select "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer", and then "OK". When it asks "Install From Disk", select correct path (eg. "A:\WIN95") and click "OK". 6. Windows 95 will copy the driver and *.inf files onto the hard disk. Next, Windows 95 will find the MPU-401 controller and gameport/joystick logical devices one after the other. For each logical device, an installation window will appear, which either says: "Windows has found new hardware and is installing the software for it" or asks whether to use the Windows Default driver (select yes in this case). 7. You will be able to tell that the driver is installed because a speaker horn symbol will show up on the task bar adjacent to the time. Next you will be able to play sounds using the "Sounds" item on the Control Panel. Also, in the Device Manager the "Analog Devices AD1816 Sound Controller" should show up under "Sound, video and game controllers" item. If your 3D WebSound has a YAMAHA wavetable on it. Follow these steps to enable the function of YAMAHA wavetable. 8. Launch the Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> the Analog Devices AD1816 Sound Controller. Select "Properties" on this device. 9. On window "Analog Devices AD1816 Sound Controller Properties", select label "Setting". You then see "I2S 1" is disabled. Select the "Right Justified" for I2S 1 port, and click OK. The YAMAHA wavetable is enabled after the Windows 95 restarts. Install the 3D WebSound while installation of Windows 95: 1. Install your Windows 95 with whole media package. It is recommend not to check the "Sound, MIDI, or Video Capture Card" on installing your Windows 95. 2. After the Windows 95 is installed, reboot your computer. 3. Launch the Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers. Remove all unknown devices (the devices with leading question marks). 4. If you find a device "Analog Devices AD1816" in "Other devices", select it and click "Properties". Otherwise, reboot your Windows 95 now. 5. On this window, choose "Driver", and then "Change Driver". When Windows 95 asks for the driver, select "Have Disk", and then install the driver of 3D WebSound board. 6. Reboot the Windows 95. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- F. D r i v e r D e - I n s t a l l a t i o n 1. With this release comes a driver de-installation program, REMOVE.EXE. From the Task Bar, choose START|RUN. 2. In the dialog box, type in the following: A:\WIN95\REMOVE.EXE and click on OK. 3. Follow the instruction appearing next. If the intention was to remove the sound card from the PC, shut down Windows 95 and turn off the PC. Open it up and remove the sound card. Next, close the PC, and turn on the power again. If the intention was to re-install the driver, just restart Windows 95, and follow the installation instructions under Section E. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- G. W i l l o w P o n d M e d i a R a c k I n s t a l l a t i o n 1. From the Start button, select Run. 2. Insert the installation diskette in floppy drive A and type: A:\SETUP.EXE and hit Return. 3. Follow the instructions on the screen. NOTES: If you are facing the popped up window "MIDI sequencer" while you select the MIDI player in MediaRack application, do not worry. Click on OK button can let the MIDI player keep working. You have two ways to eliminate this problem. The first one is to check the icon before message "Don't display this warning in the future" when you see message "This file may not play correctly with the default MIDI setup". The second one is to select the output of MIDI player to the "AD1815/6 FM MIDI". To do this, click the menu icon "Select Menu", and then the "MIDI player". The first menu icon should become "Midi". Click the menu icon "Midi", then "Select Output", and you find the "AD1815/6 FM MIDI". Click on it and the job is done. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- H. V o l u m e C o n t r o l U n d e r D O S Installation: Included with this release is a simple, but functional DOS mixer, called MIXER.BAT. To install this utility, follow the instruction below: 1. In Windows 95, open a DOS box. At the command line type: MD C:\ADISOUND 2. Insert the installation diskette in Drive A: and type at the command line: COPY A:\WINDOWS\*MIXER.* C:\ADISOUND\. This will copy the files DOSMIXER.EXE, MIXER.BAT and DOSMIXER.CFG to your harddrive. 3. From the DEVICE MANAGER, determine which I/O base address is set for the Windows Sound System codec. Open the file MIXER.BAT with an ASCII text editor, and change the switch /WSS:nnn to the value obtained from the DEVICE MANAGER. Save the file. The mixer is used to control playback volumes for application with DOS games. You should use MIXER.BAT to set the playback volume to a desired level before starting a DOS game. The following volume controls are provided: 1. Master volume control 2. Wavetable volume control 3. FM (OPL3) volume control 4. CD audio volume control 5. MPU401 volume control 6. 3D effect control Usage: 1. At the DOS command line, type: C:\ADISOUND\MIXER.BAT 2. Follow the menu options to set desired volume levels. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- J. P l a y i n g D O S g a m e s Important: Playing DOS games in an Windows 95 DOS box can sometimes be problematic. To get around this, follow the instructions below: 1. From the Windows 95 task bar, choose START|SHUTDOWN. 2. Choose next, "Re-start the computer in MS-DOS mode". 3. Invoke MIXER.BAT to set volume levels appropriately. 4. Run the DOS game.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
