*******************************
In addition to this README, the root directory contains two files:
TCCDISK.BAT tells you the version number of the programs on
the diskette and the diskette version number.
QSET5143.EXE, the program file name for Quickset, a simple command
line configuration utility.
******************
* SUBDIRECTORIES *
******************
There is one subdirectory, named ETOOLS, that contains
the seven files listed below:
ETOOLS.EXE ETOOLS3.HLP
ETOOLS0.HLP ETOOLS4.HLP
ETOOLS1.HLP ETOOLSE.HLP
ETOOLS2.HLP
**************************************
* ADAPTER SHIPPING CONFIGURATION *
**************************************
The TC5143 is shipped at Base I/O 300h and IRQ 3. The TC5143-T
is set for 10BASE-T media and the TC5143-2 is set for 10BASE2
media. Before configuring the TC5143, make sure no other device
installed in the computer is using the same Base I/O address
or IRQ line as the TC5143.
*********************************************
* ADAPTER SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION UTILITIES *
*********************************************
You can configure the TC5143 in one of two ways: with Quickset
(the program file is named QSET5143.EXE), a command line utility,
or with Ether Tools, a menu-driven setup and diagnostic utility
that has context-sensitive on-line help. Brief instructions for
using both programs are shown below. For more information, consult
the TC5143 Ethernet Adapter Installation Guide shipped with the
adapter.
QSET5143.EXE
QSET5143.EXE, the program file name for Quickset, can be used to
change a TC5143 configuration from a DOS command line. You can
use QSET5143.EXE to configure one adapter in a machine at a time.
In general, changing one setting does not affect other settings.
For example, if you use Quickset to change an adapter's Base I/O
address, its IRQ line and media type are not affected. For a
complete list of available parameters and the format for each,
enter one of the following commands:
(path)\QSET5143 -H
(path)\QSET5143 -?
ETHER TOOLS
Ether Tools can be run from any local hard or floppy disk drive
containing all of the Ether Tools program and help files. Before
running Ether Tools, log off the network and reboot your computer
with DOS loaded only. Ether Tools will not run if other programs
or memory managers are already loaded.
To start Ether Tools, switch to the directory containing the
Ether Tools program and help files and type ETOOLS. Ether Tools
is menu-driven, and has context-sensitive help to guide you
through the setup process. To configure the TC5143 adapter,
select "Adapter Settings" from the "Ether Tools" menu, and
select the TC5143-T or TC5143-2 from the "Ethernet Adapters"
menu. For more information, consult the TC5143 Ethernet
Adapter Installation Guide shipped with the adapter.
