ASUS Display Drivers Readme for Windows 98

    Supported Cards:
  
      ASUS V3800 Series
      ASUS V6600 Series
      ASUS V6800 Series

Installation Steps
------------------

You can use 4 methods to install Windows 98 display driver:
Suppose the path of your driver CD is "D:\" and Use Windows 98 as an
example.

Method 1 (PnP installation)
  1. Remove your previous video adapter and plug your ASUS display card in system.
     Start Windows. Windows will find a new device and pop up a PnP dialog
     that asks for its driver.
  2. Type the "D:\Win9x" for Windows to find the INF file of ASUS display card.
  3. Windows will install its driver automatically and then request for
     restarting.
  4. Choose Yes to reboot your system. The driver will work when Windows
     comes up.
  5. Note that this method will not install DirectX runtime libraries.
     You must install it by yourself. You also can not uninstall display
     driver.

Method 2 (Display property page)
  1. Start Windows, switch display to VGA mode, then restart.
  2. Press right key of mouse on your desktop and select "Properties".
  3. Click the "Settings" tab.
  4. Click "Advanced...".
  5. Click "Change" button on the right of the first item "Adapter".
  6. Click "Have Disk.." button - "Install from Disk" box will appear.
  7. Click "Browse" button - "Open" box appears.
  8. Select your CD drive in the "Drives" selection on the bottom.
  9. Double click "Win9x" in the "Folders" selection.
 10. "AsusNv9x.INF" appears in the filename selection.
 11. Click "OK" button.
 12. You will see a list of video cards. Select type of your VGA card
     and click "OK".
 13. After copying all files of the driver, it will back to
     "Change Display Type".
 14. Select Monitor type if necessary.
 15. Click "Close" button and "Display Properties" box appears.
 16. Click "Apply" button and "System Setting Change" box appears.
 17. Click "Yes" to restart your Windows.
 18. When Windows starts up, your video adapter is now ready to use.
 19. Note that this method will not install DirectX runtime libraries.
     You must install it by yourself. You also can not uninstall display
     driver.

Method 3 (ASUS Autorun. Quick installation)
  1. Start Windows.
  2. Put ASUS driver CD into CD-ROM drive.
  3. The AutoPlay function of CD-ROM will work and pop up ASUS Autorun
     window.
  4. Select "Install display driver" option.
  5. Follow the instructions on dialog. Driver will be installed and
     request for restart.
  6. Reboot system and your video adapter is now ready to use.

Method 4 (Run ASUS installation program directly)
  1. Start Windows.
  2. Put ASUS driver CD into CD-ROM drive.
  3. Change to "D:\Win9x" directory and execute "ANvSETUP.EXE". You also can
     change to "D:\Win9x\ANvWest" or "D:\Win9x\ANvEast" directory 
     (depending on your language) for multi-language support installation.
  4. Run "setup.exe".
  5. Follow the instructions. Driver will be installed and request for
     restarting.
  6. Reboot system and your video adapter is now ready to use.



Installation Notes
------------------


1. Windows 98 OpenGL ICD and video capture driver (for TV models only)
   have been included.

2. Quick installation works only when it finds that Primary Display is
   ASUS display card or device node exists. You can also 
   ignore the warning dialog and continue to install driver. If it do not 
   work, you must install driver via Windows PnP dialog or Display property 
   page (use ASUSNv9x.INF).

3. To make better capturing performane, you may need to check:
   1) Make sure DMA mode is enabled if you use IDE DMA/33 or DMA/66 hard-drives.
      (Control Panel => System => Device Manager => Disk Drives =>
       Properties => Settings => Options => DMA)
   2) Run Disk Defragmenter (DeFrag.exe) if hard driver is near full.



Trouble Shootings
------------------

1. After installing the driver, Windows 98 doesn't prompt me for restarting
   and the driver still doesn't work after I reboot it by myself.

   You may have installed similar drivers before. Try the following steps
   to install:

   (1) Use right button of mouse to click on "My Computer" icon on desktop.
   (2) Select "Properties" and "System Properties" box appears
   (3) Click on "Device Manager" tab
   (4) You will see a list of devices on your computer.
   (5) If "Display adapters" appears in the list, click it.
       If "Display adapters" doesn't appear, jump to step 9 and continue.

   (6) The name of your card will be listed in the box. Double click it.
   (7) The properties box of your card appears. Select "Driver" tab.
   (8) Click "Update Driver.." and follow the installation steps.

   (9) Click "Other devices" you will see your card is listed.
  (10) Click on the name of card, the properties box appears.
       Select "Driver" tab.
  (11) Click "Change Driver.." and follow the installation steps.

2. After installation and restarting, Windows 98 informs me that display
   setting is still incorrect. What can I do?

   There may be conflict between previous and current display drivers.
   This is caused by not complete removal of previous display driver. Try
   the following steps to remove it:

   (1) Use right button of mouse to click on "My Computer" icon on desktop.
   (2) Select "Properties" and "System Properties" box appears
   (3) Click on "Device Manager" tab
   (4) You will see a list of devices on your computer.
   (5) Open "Display adapters" in the list (double click it).
   (6) You will find two (or more) conflicted adapters listed here.
   (7) Remove all previous adapters by selecting them and press "Remove"
   (8) Close Device Manager and restart Windows 98.
   (9) Now display driver will work correctly.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
