Version 1.0      Modem Drivers - Microsoft Windows 95 & NT 4.0

To take full advantage of using your modem with Microsoft Windows 95 and
Windows NT 4.0, it is recommended that you install the modem information file
provided with this archive. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to follow the Uninstall 
Procedure below to ensure that any previous NetComm drivers have been removed.

:Windows NT 4.0 Note:
---------------------
Ensure that the ISA Plug and Play capabilities are installed from the Windows NT 4.0 CDROM before
installing your Internal Plug and Play Modem. This support is not installed by a default Windows
NT 4.0 installation. To install the PnP support for ISA do the following:
  1. Open Windows NT Explorer from the Start menu.
  2. Open the Windows NT 4.0 CDROM.
  3. Open the folder "drvlib"
  4. Open the folder "PNPISA"
  5. Open the folder "X86"
  6. Right-click on the file "pnpisa.inf" and choose "Install"
This will add ISA Plug and Play support to your Windows NT 4.0 configuration and you may now 
install your Internal Plug and Play modem into your machine.

:Driver Uninstall Procedure:
----------------------------
1. Open a DOS Prompt Window by selecting "Start/Programs/MS-DOS Prompt"
2. Change directory to C:\WINDOWS\INF (or C:\WINNT\INF)
3. Type "dir oem*.inf" and press <ENTER>
4. View each "oem" file (using DOS edit) and delete the files that contain NetComm.
5. If using OSR2, change directory to C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER, otherwise go to step 8
6. Type "dir" and press <ENTER>
7. View each INF file (using DOS edit) and delete the files that contain NetComm.
8. Type "exit" and press <ENTER>
9. Open "regedit" by going "Start/Run" then typing "regedit" in the box, and press <ENTER>
10. Double-click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" and then "Enum"
11. Double-click on "ISAPNP" then select and delete anything that starts with "NCL"
12. Double-click on "MODEMWAVE" then select and delete anything that says NetComm.
13. Double-click on "SERENUM" then select and delete anything that starts with "NCL"
14. Double-click on "PCMCIA" then select and delete anything that says NetComm.
15. Close Regedit.

:To install the modem information file please follow these instructions:

- From the START button select Settings, Control Panel.
- Double-click on the Modems icon in the Control Panel.
- When prompted ensure the 'Don't detect my Modem; I will select it from a
  list' box has a cross in it.
- Click on the Next button.
- From the Modem List window click on the Have Disk button.
- Browse to the .INF file provided with this archive.
- Click on the Ok button.
(If your modem supports Plug and Play the modem will now be automatically
configured).
- From the NetComm or Avtek modem list select your modem model.
- Click on the Next button.
- Select the Communications Port that your Modem is connected to.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button.
- Your modem has now been installed.

The Modem properties window will appear, options such as error correction,
speaker volume, outside line etc can be configured in this area.

When you have modified these settings appropriately choose Ok.

Your modem will now be available to Windows 95 and NT 4.0 applications
including Microsoft Fax (if your modem is fax capable) and HyperTerminal.

[1]  Auto FaxSwitching     : With this driver, Automatic Faxswitching is
enabled and you or your answering machine must answer the incoming call. If
the call is fax or data the modem will switch the call and software will
automatically answer. Ensure the software is set to answer after 2 rings.
[Note: If your AM3451 has a 33.6kbps Enhanced Sticker then choose the
"NetComm Roadster 288 (33.6k Enh) Auto FaxSw  ( AM3451 )" driver].

[2]  Manual FaxSwitching   : With this driver, Manual FaxSwitching enabled.
With Manual switching the incoming call type is determined by the person who
picks up the handset, and is manually switched by pressing a nominated
button on the phone. Ensure the software is set to answer after 2 rings.
[Note: If your AM3451 has a 33.6kbps Enhanced Sticker then choose the
"NetComm Roadster 288 (33.6k Enh) Man FaxSw  ( AM3451 )" driver].

[3]  FaxSwitching Disabled : With this driver, Faxswitching is disabled, the
incoming call will be answered by the modem and the call type will be
determined by your communication software. [If your AM3451 has a 33.6kbps
Enhanced Sticker then choose the "NetComm Roadster 288 (33.6k Enh) FaxSw
Disabled  ( AM3451 )" driver]. For more information regarding Faxswitching,
please refer to the READ ME FIRST GUIDE (supplied with your Roadster modem).
Note that AM1750 & AM3450 do not support Faxswitching.

[4]  Roadster 144P Economy : Economy mode is enabled for power saving. To
disable Economy mode use the Roadster 144 (AM1750) driver.

[5]  The SmartModem 288D & 336D drivers have Digital Simultaneous Voice and
Data (Digital SVD) enabled by default.

[6]  These modems have been upgraded to support 33.6k (33,600bps) and 31.2k
(31,200bps). Choose this driver so that the modem will be configured to
connect at 33.6k.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
