General Notes:

 Function of this driver is to replace Microsoft Windows 
 Standard Floppy Disk Controller with STMicroelectronic 
 Floppy Disk Controller.

# Why use STMicroelectronics Floppy Controller Driver (FCD)?
 
  STMicroelectronic FCD is designed for Microsoft Windows 95,
  because Standard Floppy Controller Driver conflict with our
  device.

# What are the problems when using Standard (FDC)?

  If the Standard FDC is not updated to STM FDC driver it may 
  cause the system to hang when performing any floppy disk 
  utility e.g read, write, format.

# Which STPC devices are affected?

  STPC ConsumerII and STPC Elite floppy disk controller 
  device does not function properly when using MS Standard 
  FDC Driver.

IMPORTANT NOTES
***************

 Since STM FDC device does not work well with MS standard FDC,
 you have to first copy the installation file onto your storage
 media, e.g Hardisk, SCSI Harddisk from the DOS prompt, instead 
 of installing the STM FDC driver from the floppy drive in 
 Windows 95 directly. 

 Please read through the installing procedure below carefully.

Installation Procedure :
========================

Copy STM FDC driver onto storage media

1) After BIOS P.O.S.T (power-on self-test), interrupt the system
   from booting Windows95 by pressing "Shift-F5" simultaneously
   and enter into DOS prompt command.

2) A batch file STM95fdc.bat will create a directory onto your
   storage media (default on Drive C) and copy the installation
   file onto directory c:\STM95fdc


Reboot System and Start Windows95

1) Goto "SETTINGS" and select "CONTROL PANEL"

2) From the "CONTROL PANEL" menu select "SYSTEM".

3) In "SYSTEM PROPERTIES" goto "DEVICE MANAGER" and 
   select Floppy Disk Controller Icon.

4) Open "Floppy Disk Controller" icon and select 
   "Standard Floppy Disk Controller".

5) Click "PROPERTIES" and select "DRIVERS".

6) Click onto "UPDATE DRIVER..." icon.

7) Allow Windows to search for updated driver. 
   Select "YES" (Recommended)

8) Make sure there is no floppy disk in the drive.

9) Select "OTHER LOCATIONS" icon and direct Windows to c:\STM95FDC
   directory.

10) Click "OK" and "FINISH"

11) When the installation is completed reboot the system.


Notes :
-----

1) Do not installed STMicroelectonics Floppy Controller 
   Driver as a new hardware. The driver will not work properly.

2) If the STM FDC still does not function properly. Remove
   all devices from FDC and reinstall STM FDC.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
