  CDR-1000A CD-ROM Device Driver (250-1077A) 

(Includes MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions Version 2.21)

This driver enables the user to use the CDR-1000A CD-ROM Drive with
an IBM PC, XT, AT, or compatible computer. Please note that the computer
must have a TANDY BIOS ROM version 01.01.01 or later and TANDY MS-DOS
version 3.30.00 or later


This disk contains the following files--

   MTMCDD.SYS    MTMCDS.SYS
   MSCDEX.EXE    SETUP.EXE
   TCDP.EXE      README.DOC    
   README.TXT


In order to obtain a printout of this README.TXT file, insert this
disk in Drive A, make sure your printer is switched on, is on line,
and at the C:\> prompt, type the following command--

   PRINT A:README.TXT

and press <Enter>.


INSTALLATION

1.  Follow the procedure described in the chapters titled
    HARDWARE INSTALLATION, PREPARING THE ADAPTER INTERFACE,
    INSTALLING THE ADAPTER INTERFACE, and CONNECTING DATA AND 
    POWER CABLES in the Installation Guide in order to install 
    the CD-ROM Drive.
    
2.  Start up your computer. Make sure that the C:\> prompt is displayed
    on the screen.
    
3.  Insert this disk in Drive A.

4.  Type

       A:

    and press <Enter>. The A:\> prompt should be displayed on the screen.

5.  Type

       setup

    and press <Enter>. The prompt

       Do you want to install MTMCDS.SYS?
       [Y or N]

    is displayed. 
    
      NOTE:
         *If your computer is using all available DMA and IRQ
          channels, type N and press <Enter> to install the MTMCDS.SYS 
          software transfer file. The prompt

             Do you want to install MTMCDS.SYS?
             [Y or N]

          Type Y and press <Enter> twice. The prompt

             In which directory would you like
             the CD-ROM device driver files
             installed?
             (Press ENTER for default)

             C:\DEV     [default]

           is displayed.

    NOTE:
       *If you are unsure whether your computer is using all available DMA
        and IRQ channels, consult your local Radio Shack or get in touch with 
        the Radio Shack Product Support Center at (817) 878-6875.

        Proceed to Step 7.  

6.  Type Y and press <Enter> twice. The prompt

       In which directory would you like 
       the CD-ROM device driver files 
       installed?
       (Press ENTER for default)

       C:\DEV   [default]

    is displayed.

7.  Press <Enter> if you want to install the MTMCDD.SYS file (or the
    MTMCDS.SYS file) in the default directory. If not type the drive
    designation and the complete pathname of the directory you want.

8.  Press <Enter>. The prompt

       Installing file MTMCDD.SYS
       Copying file MTMCDD.SYS to
       C:\DEV\MTMCDD.SYS...  ...Done

       Press [ENTER] when ready to proceed.

   is displayed.

   NOTE:
      *If you had selected the MTMCDS.SYS software transfer file, the
       prompt

          Installing file MTMCDS.SYS
          Copying file MTMCDS.SYS to
          C:\DEV\MTMCDS.SYS...  ...Done

          Press [ENTER] when ready to proceed

       would be displayed.

9.  Press <Enter>. The prompt  

       In which directory would you like
       MSCDEX.EXE installed?
       (Press ENTER for default)

       C:\BIN   [default]

    is displayed.

10. Press <Enter> if you want to install MSCDEX.EXE file in the default
    directory. If not, type the drive designation and complete pathname
    of the directory you want.

11. Press <Enter>. The prompt

       Installing file MSCDEX.EXE
       Copying file MSCDEX.EXE to
       C:\BIN\MSCDEX.EXE..  ...Done

       Press [ENTER] when ready to proceed.

12. Press <Enter>. Respond according to the instructions on the display.
    The prompt

       Would you like to continue
       the setup procedure? [Y or N]

    is displayed.

13. Type Y and press <Enter> to make changes to the file called CONFIG.NEW.
    The prompt

       Select I/O address of the adapter
       interface? (300h=1, 310h=2, 340h=3,
       360h=4, 390h=5)
       (Press ENTER for default)
       /P:300     [default]
       Input No.  (1 to 5)

    is displayed.
    
14. Press <Enter> if you want to select the default value. If not, type
    the appropriate number (2 to 5) and press <Enter>. The prompt

       Select CPU speed? (SLOW=1,MEDIUM=2,
       FAST=3)
       (If you want to have device driver
       detect automatically, press ENTER
       for default. Then, the "/S" parameter
       will not be added to config.sys
       file.)
       (Press ENTER for default)

15. Press <Enter> if you want to select the default value. If not, type
    the appropriate number (1 to 3).

16. Press <Enter>. The prompt

       Select audio play ? (0: MSCDEX
       standard, 1: monaural play)
       Press ENTER for default
       /A:0     [default]
       /A:

17. Press <Enter> if you wish to select the default value. If not, type
    1.

18. Press <Enter>. The prompt

       Select memory buffer size? (MIN=2,
       MAX=19)
       (Press ENTER for default)
       /M:2     [default]
       /M:

    is displayed. 

    NOTE:
       *If you selected the MTMCDS.SYS software tranfer file in Step 6,
        proceed to Step 21.

19. Press <Enter> if you want to select the default value. If not, type
    the appropriate number (3 to 19).

20. Press <Enter>. The prompt 

       MTMCDD is the device driver for DMA
       transfer. You need to specify the DRQ
       and IRQ channel number of the interface
       card.

       Which channel (1,3) would you like
       DRQ channel specified?
       (Press ENTER for default)
       /T:3     [default]
       /T:

    NOTE:
       *DRQ in this step refers to the adapter interface DMA channel
        setting. See "PREPARING THE ADAPTER INTERFACE" in the 
        Installation Guide.

21. Press <Enter> if you wish to select the default value. If not, type 1.

    NOTE:
       *If you selected the MTMCDS.SYS software transfer file in Step 6,
        the prompt

           Select memory buffer size?
           (MIN=1, MAX=20)
           (Press ENTER for default)
           /M:1     [default]
           /M:

        is displayed. Press <Enter> if you want to select default value. If 
        not, type the appropriate number (2 to 20).

        Press <Enter>. The prompt

           You need to specify the IRQ channel
           number of the I/F card for sub
           channel data transfer
           Which channel (2,3,5) would you like
           IRQ cannel specified?
           (Press ENTER for default)
           /I:3     [default]
           /I

        is displayed. Press <Enter> if you want to select the default value; 
        if not, 2 or 5.  The prompt

           Adding the following entries
           to c:\config.sys:
           DEVICE=\DEV\MTMCDS.SYS /D:MSCD001
           /P:300 /A:0 /M:1 /I:3

           Press ENTER when ready to proceed.

    Proceed to Step 25.

22. Press <Enter>. The prompt

23. Press <Enter> if you wish to select the default value. If not, type
    2 or 5.

       DEVICE=\DEV\MTMCDD.SYS /D:MSCD001
       /P:300 /A:0 /M:2 /T:3 /I:3

       Press ENTER when ready to proceed.

25. Press <Enter>. Respond according to the prompts

       Do you want setup to make the changes
       to config.sys? [Y or N]

26. Type Y and press <Enter>. The prompt

       Copying C:\CONFIG.SYS to C:\CONFIG.BAK
       Copying C:\CONFIG.NEW to C:\CONFIG.SYS

       Done...

       Press ENTER when ready to proceed.

27. Press <Enter>. The prompt

       Adding the following entry
       to c:\autoexec.bat:
       \BIN\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001
       Press ENTER when ready to proceed.

28. Press <Enter>. Respond accordingly to the prompts

       Do you want setup to make the changes
       to autoexec.bat? [Y or N]

29. Type Y and press <Enter>. The prompt

       Copying C:AUTOEXEC.BAT
       to C:AUTOEXEC.BAK
       Copying C:AUTOEXEC.NEW
       to C:AUTOEXEC.BAT

       Done...

       Press ENTER when ready to proceed.

30. Press <Enter>. Respond accordingly to the prompts and reboot your
    computer.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
