		 PhoenixCard Manager(tm) Version 4.02
===========================================================================

=======

PURPOSE

=======

Section One is for end users. Section Two is for technical users, which
includes more detail on drivers, socket services, and resource managers.

*******
SUMMARY
*******

   PhoenixCard Manager 4.02 complies with the PC Card Standard published by
the Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) in
February 1995, including all updates through May 1996.
   PhoenixCard Manager 4.02 supports Modem, local area network (LAN), Static
Random Access Memory (SRAM), Small Computer System Interface (SCSI), Advanced
Technology Attachment (ATA), and Flash (a small family of electrically
erasable programmable read-only memory [ROM]), and Zoomed Video (ZV) Port PC
Cards. In addition, a new host silicon (i.e., a socket controller; an
onboard chip that allows support for PC cards in a portable PC) is
supported. Version 4.02 also supports the capability to dynamically detect
and resolve resource conflicts and can be set up to trigger card events to
execute software activities.
   PhoenixCard Manager 4.02 has a Windows-based install and supports
MS DOS 5.0 or later with MS Windows 3.1 or MS Windows 3.11, and requires at
least one PC Card socket and a hard disk with at least 2.2 MB of free space.
   "Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), PhoenixCard Manager(tm)" contains
helpful information for the first-time user and original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs). The FAQ covers software elements, explains common
problems, and details additional information. It can be found in electronic
form from www.phoenix.com\pcmcia\pcmcia.html.

                                   multifunction cards (allowing two
                                   functions in on card, thereby freeing up
                                   one socket) including:

                                   - LAN and Modem (allows downloading
                                       data from a Modem to a card),
                                   - SCSI and Modem (allows a hookup to a

                                   - ATA and Modem (allows a hookup to a
                                       card)

                                C) New support for ZV Cards, which allows
                                   playing a full-length movie on ZV-capable
                                   laptop or notebook PCs

                                D) New socket silicon supported:

                                   -   TI PCI1131 (16-bit)
                                   -   Cirrus CL6832 (16-bit)
                                   -   Cirrus CL6729 Rev E

                                   test, PCM 4.02 may or may not support
                                   these devices

PhoenixCard Manager 4.02 excludes CardBus (32-bit) support.

==========

PARAMETERS

==========

PCM 4.02 will support the majority of PC Cards in a standard system
configuration. Parameters may need to be added to maximize performance of
certain cards. A complete list of the parameters can be found in the
PhoenixCard Manager Technical Reference Manual, which is available in
electronic form from www.phoenix.com\pcmcia\pcmcia.html.

=============
Card Services
=============

Initialization
==============

Card Services no longer uses an interrupt and defaults to Poll mode, which
provides the user access to the IRQ.

Socket Communications Ethernet Cards
====================================

Some Socket Communications Ethernet PC Cards require the voltage parameter
/VCC_ON in PCM.INI to configure and operate.

=====

NOTES

=====

Because some TI1130 silicon have enhanced, built-in safety features,
Sundisk ATA PC Cards and the TDK LAN LAC-CD021L PC Card (which initializes
at 5 volts and operates at 3.3 volts) may not configure.

Similarly, a Sundisk ATA PC Card that is cold-inserted into a Cirrus 6730
silicon may not configure because of the built-in protection against
powering a card up at 5 volts when the voltage sensing indicates 3.3 volts.

(2605) With the IBM combination card (1 megabyte flash and 1 megabyte
SRAM card), make certain that the PCMATA driver has the /SX=2 parameter.
Either scan the PCM.INI file for this parameter, or (recommended) run
SETUP and increase the number of partitions to 2. The End User's Manual
has more detail on running SETUP under Windows.

=====

OTHER

=====

If you are a technical user, the PhoenixCard Manager Technical Reference
Manual includes topics such as customizing PCM.INI and DEINST.TXT, Power
Management, ROM Bootability, Writing a Client Driver, Advanced
Troubleshooting, and other topics. The manual is available in electronic
form from www.phoenix.com\pcmcia\pcmcia.html. Limited printed copies are
available from your Phoenix Sales Representative.

ISSUES SPECIFIC TO INTERNATIONAL USERS

======================================

PhoenixCard Manager has been translated into various languages. During
installation with non-English language versions, the BROWSE feature will
only work correctly if the user selects a directory which already exists.
The user may choose either to install PhoenixCard Manager into our default
directory, "pcm4", or into any pre-existing directory using the Browse
feature. If instead the user wants to install the software into a new
directory, then that directory must first be created prior to running the
Install program.

===================================

ISSUES SPECIFIC TO CERTAIN PC CARDS

===================================

(4025)
DataRace/Winmax Card:
This card is not a standard Modem and is not intended to operate as such.
Thus, PhoenixCard Manager will not automatically configure this card as it
does other Modems. Instead, the user should manually configure the card
using the DataRace driver.

================================

PARAMETERS ADDED TO VERSION 4.02

================================

Listed below are the new parameters added to 4.02:

=========       ===========================================================
Parameter       Function
=========       ===========================================================

/NoRI Instructs SS NOT to use Ring Indicator/IRQ 15 or
                RI_OUT/INTB#/IRQ 10

/RI Instructs SS to use Ring Indicator/IRQ 15 (currently only
                supports OmegaMicro controller)

*** if neither /NoRi & /RI are defined, both are ignored

/ZV Enables ZV supports for ZV capable controllers

/BUFZV=x sets ZV Buffer to mode x
                x = 3 for Extensa model 650, 660, & 900 series
                x = 4 for Sanyo/Micron Note-3A

/NOVXX Instructs SS to ignore other voltage settings, and to use
                5 volts for Omega controller (almost similar to /NO3V of
                CL6730)

/SPEAKER Enables speaker routing on modems, for TI1130
/SERIALIRQ Enables serial interrupt controllers, for TI1130

/ADDR=xx Indicates the starting address of an 8K memory windows
                required for CL6832 controller (i.e., /ADDR=D4, D400 is the
                starting address)

/USEIOMODE When using the new parameter /USEIOMODE, RAM flash cards and
                modem cards do not work well; some multifunction cards
                require it--the Revision 4 chip problem was fixed; fixes
                bugs with some MFCs and in the TI1130 chip set; the switches
                configure the driver to work in specific platform/controller
                combinations

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
