			Windows 95 Driver Installation
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TVS Printers' support advanced IEEE P1284 complaint parallel interface
with bi-directional capability. The support for Windows 95 Plug and Play is
also built-in. This feature simplifies the installation of drivers.

First time installation using Windows Plug and Play
---------------------------------------------------
Connect your printer to the computer and switch it ON. Start
Windows 95. Windows automatically detects TVS Printer through the
bi-directional parallel interface and displays the appropriate screen.

Upon detecting a Plug and Play compatible printer, Windows displays a
dialog box choosing the closest matching driver that Windows directly supports.

	1. Windows default driver - If this option is chosen, you will loose
TVS Printers' unique features. Hence, we do not recommend
		this option.
 	2. Driver from disk provided by manufacturer - Choose this option to
load the TVS Printer driver. You can thereby access the
		TVS Printer's specific features.
	3. Do not install a driver - Choose this option if you have already
installed the driver. If you click on this accidentally,
Windows will never attempt to detect TVS Printers. Hence we
		do not recommend this option.
	4. Select from a list of alternate drivers - Selecting a wrong driver
from the list may result in output below expectation. Hence
we do not recommend this option.

Select the second option and click on "OK". Windows displays a dialog
box requesting the disk from the manufacturer.

Please insert the CDROM provided to you along with the printer and
click "OK" to proceed.

Windows automatically installs the appropriate TVS Printer driver.
In the next step, you can indicate if you want TVS Printer to be your default
printer. Click on "Yes".

The next step gives you an option to print a test page by Windows.
Select "Yes" if you wish to print a test page. Click on "Finish" to complete
the installation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
				Regular Installation
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to install the driver on your own rather than going through the
automatic installation through Plug and Play, you can follow these steps to
complete Windows 95 driver installation.

	1. Pull up the START menu by clicking on the START button. Click on
the "Settings" menu item. Select "Printers". Double click on
"Add Printer" icon.
	2. Click on "Next>"
	3. Leave the "Local Printer" selected. Then click on "Next>".
	4. Windows 95 displays the list of printers that are directly
supported. Click on "Have Disk" button to install the TVS Printer driver.
	5. Windows 95 expects you to indicate the path where the TVS Printer
driver files are stored. By default it displays "A:\".
	6. Type in the path for the directory, say D:\WIN95DRV. Type and
click on OK. Alternately, you may also click on "Browse" button to do the
same.
	7. A dialog box bearing the TVS Printer names appears. Select your
printer model to install the corresponding printer driver. For example,
TVS MSP 345. Then, click on "Next>" button to proceed further.
	8. Click on "Next" if your printer is connected to the LPT1.
Click on "Configure Port" to configure the parallel port parameters.
	9. Windows 95 wants you to indicate whether TVS Printer is going to be
the default printer. Click on "Yes" if you decide the same.
	10. Select "Yes" if you wish to print a test page. Click on "Finish"
to complete the installation.
	11. Windows displays the "Printers" dialog box again. But this time,
you will notice that "TVS MSP 345" icon has been added.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
			Setting up the printer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To configure the printer (we have installed TVS MSP 345), click on the
printer TVS MSP 345 icon and press the right mouse button. A menu pops up.
Select "Properties" from this menu. You can also hold <ALT> key and
press ENTER. Windows 95 displays the TVS MSP 345 Properties dialog box. Here
you can select printer features like resolution, dithering, paper size etc.
This dialog box is divided into 5 tabs. They are General, Details, Paper,
Graphics, and Device Options.

Let us take a look at some of the options that can be selected through
this dialog box.

Paper
-----
Select this tab to select different paper sizes, orientation and the
paper source.

a. Selecting a paper size
In most of the applications, you can change the page size from within
the application itself (example: Page layout or Layout menu). But many other
applications rely on the settings selected through the control panel. Please
make sure that the paper size selected in the application and the one selected
in the driver are same. Otherwise, the output may not match the page layout.

b. Orientation
The orientation setting in Windows indicates the way the software will
be printing on the paper. In Portrait orientation, the printer will print
parallel to the short side of the paper. In Landscape orientation, the
printer will print parallel to the long side of the paper.

Please note that in both cases, you have to load the paper the same way.
In your application, you will be selecting the orientation in the Page Setup
menu. Please make sure that the orientation chosen in the application and in
the driver setup ("Properties" dialog box) are same.

c. Paper source
The driver supports Tractor feed, Manual feed. Select "Tractor" if
you are using continuous stationery, "Manual Feed" if you are using cut sheets.

Graphics
--------
Select this tab to change resolution, dithering options, intensity.

a. Resolution
When you click on the "Graphics" tab, the dialog box appears. The
first field in this dialog box is "Resolution". Clicking on the pull down
arrow displays the resolutions supported by the printer. The available
resolutions are:
	· 120 x 180	Low resolution, highest speed
	· 180 x 180	Medium resolution
	· 360 x 180 High resolution
	· 360 x 360	Super high resolution

The expression 120 x 180 indicates that in this mode, the printer can print
120 dots in an inch horizontally and 180 dots vertically in an inch.

Higher resolution improves appearance of the document but reduces print speed.
For instance, at 360 x 360 resolution, the output is very good. But the
printer prints two passes to complete a line.

TIP: Use 120 x 180 for most of the draft printing applications because this is
fast and conserves ribbon. For final documents, use 180 x 180 because this
combines reasonable quality, economy and speed. For selected applications
like printing line drawings, use 360 x 180 dpi or 360 x 360 dpi because, this
mode produces very dark output (consumes more ink), takes longer to complete
printing.

TIP: If you are printing colour documents, avoid selecting 360 x 360 dpi.

Some application software allows you to change these settings from within the
application itself. Other applications take the resolution setting set
through the "Properties" dialog box.

b. Dithering
Photographic image, colour graphics etc. and other colour images
(includes shades of grey) seen on your VGA monitor have to be converted to
dot graphic information which can be printed by printing devices. This
process is called dithering. None, Coarse, Fine, Line art and Error
diffusion refer to the quality of dithering.

TIP: If you are using lower resolution (say 120 x 180), use Fine dithering.
If you are using higher resolution (say 360 x 180, 360 x 360), select Coarse
dithering. Using Fine dithering at higher resolutions can lead to dark
images with very little shades. In coarse dithering, though the dots will be
visible, the overall graphic image will have more shades and will look better
from a distance. Use Error Diffusion for printing photographic images where
smooth colour gradients or soft shades of grey are required but sharp edge
details are not required.

c. Intensity control
You will see a scroll bar with one end marked Darker and the other
marked Lighter. This is once again a measure of controlling the way the
photographic images and colours are printed. If you have loaded a new ribbon,
the charts printed may look too dark. In such situations, move the selector
towards Lighter.

However, please note that this is useful only for photographic images and
charts. This is not effective while you are printing text. This can also not
be used for increasing the darkness if your ribbon is old.

d. Color
Click on this button to adjust the colour settings. Select "Print in
Black and White only" when you are not printing in colour.

Device Options
--------------
This section allows you to change the print quality. The options
available are Letter quality and Draft.

Use Draft for quick, rough print out and Letter Quality for final output.

Note: The print quality will have effect only in the printer built-in fonts.
There will be no effect on the highly packed graphics output.

Managing the print queue
------------------------
The primary function of the print spooler is to spool the print job
to disk and release the application faster. Then, the spooler prints the
document in the background. This means while printing a long document, you
do not have to wait till the printer prints the last page.

The spooler can accept more than one print job. This means that you can fire
many print jobs - an Excel spreadsheet report, a Word document, a PowerPoint
presentation and a Corel Draw picture in quick succession. All these print
jobs will be queued up in the spooler. These print jobs are queued for
printing.

Double clicking on the printer icon in the "Printers" folder to pop up the
following printer window. You can pause, move (change the order of printing)
or cancel any of these print jobs.
